I am restoring my "new to me" 30 year old B219 FEL for my B7100. Everything functioned well before I tore it down for sand blasting and powder coat. All of the hydraulic lines are weathered, cracked and the metal braid is beginning to rust. So, I have been looking for an economical place to buy replacements. Locally, the hoses can be made for 30 cents/inch plus ends. I will need ten 1/4" NPTM hoses 13.5 inches and 16 inches, two 1/4" NPTM hoses 20", and one 3/8" NPTM hose 52". I found this site, www.surpluscenter.com, that sells assembled hoses. They come in 6" increments, so I would have to replace the ten 13.5 & 16" hoses with 18" ($5.50 ea), the two 20" hoses with 24" ($6 ea) and the 52" hose with a 60" ($10.95ea). These prices are much more economical than OEM or made-up hoses. The 1/4" hoses are rated for 2750 psi and the 3/8" is rated for 3000 psi. Am I missing something and will the excess 2 to 8 inches of hose cause me any problems.

What is the total collective $$$ difference between 1/4 inch hose and 3/8 inch hose?
50 cents on the ten 18" hoses and 75 cents on the two 24" hoses. So the total difference would be $6.50. If you are suggesting I go with larger hoses, I would also need twelve 1/4 NPTM TO 3/8 NPTF adapters to match up to the existing connections. At $2/ea that would be $24 bringing the total to $30.50.

Cost for all of the hoses without this change is $77.95 plus shipping at Surplus Center. OEM replacement cost using Golden Eagle online was $374 plus shipping. 480% difference!

Check the max working psi of the bucket.
Maybe a guy can save a few bone$

Personally I would opt for the bigger hoses.

Does the psi rating of a hose decrease as it wears/ages?

Here's the information I have: Burst pressure on the Surplus Center 1/4" hose is stated to be 12,000 psi, 4.4 times the 2750 psi rating (I suspect the pressed fittings would let go before the hose). The load rating on my bucket is only 500 lbs.

I doubt if my front PTO pump pressure ever gets above 1000 psi (but I don't know). My current hoses look original, so they must be 30 years old. The outside protective rubber is pealing off of the steel braid. Even though the steel braid is rusting, there is still no leaks. As amazing as it seems, if there is a decrease in rating over time and use, these hoses haven't deteriorated far enough to leak in 30 years at the pump pressures they are seeing.

I buy all my hydraulic hoses and fittings from Surplus Center. I buy the 3/8" hoses. Your hydraulic pump may get up to 1,700 psi or so --- depends on what condition it's in.
