Stayed up late last night and watched hundreds of mods. Some pretty cool, some not so cool but a lot of ideas started swilling around inside my noggin.

Work lights are a must have. So they're coming sooner rather than later....

Practicality won out in the end - I made my first mod and bolted on a spinner! I decided that it's not a diesel tractor without a spinner! I also thought it would be prudent to make a "High-Tech" ROPS reminder so that I don't unintentionally make a taller doorway in the barn! - when the machine is in operation, I can just toss it over the FEL joystick.

Weekend Mods- The book

Hello all:

This is the first in a 3 part post on some simple mods I did to my machine yesterday. I really enjoy locking myself in my barn, turning up the tunes and just slipping off into my own little world with a pellet stove and a case of Coors Light during the winter months.

Any upgrade I do, needs to be functional/practical - durable and look pretty professional.

The first job was to mount a clevis hanger from Ken's Bolt-on (http://www.boltonhooks.com/) to my loader bucket. Nothing crazy - I'm not a big fan of HEAVY pulling from the hydraulics - I prefer the frame, but an all purpose ring could come in handy.

Weekend Mods 2

The second job this weekend was to upgrade the headlights. The stock headlight bulbs are 35W and spend most of their time behind the loader. Because they're halogen - they give off more of a yellow color light. I changed them out for a pair of 50W LED bulbs that give off more of a white colored light and are noticeably brighter. Super-easy to install, just plug and play. If you like them, I got them from here: http://amzn.to/2mhmyQM

Weekend Mod 3a

This last one took a bit of planning. I got these utility hooks from eBay for $20. After running them through a wire-wheel to remove the chrome plating, I hit them with some etching primer and 10 coats of Satin Black Rustoleum. These would be perfect for mounting a hatchet to one side of my tractor and an ax to the other. I attached them with some grade 8 (5/8" X 2") bolts and Plasti-Dipped the pinch arms of the bracket.

Weekend Mod 3b

The ax handle was 4" too long to fit on the side of the floor board without interfering with the tires/wheels so I cut 4-1/4" off with the miter saw to give it a nice, angled cut and then used Plasti-Dip to create a handle. I dipped the ax handle 9 times to get the desired thickness and had to cut the bottom out of one of the cans of dip, then couple them together to fit the entire length of the new handle including displacement.

I put a set of 10w LED bulbs in my head lights. One of the front "reflectors" of whatever you call them, came off and is rattling around in the headlight, and there's a bit of condensation in there now. Might have to replace those with a better set of LED bulbs.

At least seal better....

I hope not. So far, so good!. One of the things I try to do before I buy anything from Amazon is to look a the reviews verified purchasers have left. Silly as it seem - I never buy the cheapest option as a matter of policy. it can be $2 more but never the cheapest option. Also, I replaced 35W with a set of 50W bulbs. If they fail or shake apart - I will certainly advise the community. Thanks for your comment!!
