Going to see a 2010 Kubota L2800 with 200 hours.

Wondering what the feedback is on this model?

Is 28 hp any disadvantage with this size tractor?

Any idea as to what is a good price to pay?

Has R4 tires and rears are loaded, 4wd, FEL, HST, and
has been garage stored.

All feedback will be appreciated.

Solid model, little plain but problem free.
check to make sure three point is not jumpy when it lifts or drops, Might need Implement on it to notice.

Size and HP Advantage or Disadvantage is all relative to the type of work you want to do with it.

$13,500 to $14,500 is normal range for that tractor model.

Thanks for the follow up.

"A little plain"...what is this model lacking?

Jumpy 3ph...is there a fix? Does the HST and Fel also have this issue?

Finer controls and better seat, some other add on details, noting you can't live without if you never had it.

The three point issue only effects the three point, and it may or may not be an issue, some are fine some need just some adjustment, and the worst needed new valves (rare instances).

No it does not effect the FEL or the HST. ;)

The jumpy 3 point had an easy solution and a tough, expensive solution. The easy (and cheap) was to idle the engine back. It lifts a lot smoother that way. The expensive was to replace the position control valve.

Yes seats weren't stellar but it's a tractor and not a Lincoln. But if you're going to be on it a lot, for long periods of time, the L3301 seat will go on, and is quite a bit more comfy. But it's plastic....not metal. Why did they have to do that.....???

Look at the radiator neck, where the cap goes on. Remove cap. Look down inside and if you see a white/gray substance on the inside of the radiator neck, the engine has been overheated. That is a dead giveaway. Most folks don't know to look at that.

Have seen a few with broken suction hoses on the back of the hydrualic pump. Sometimes causes issues with power steering, loader roughness, and occasionally 3ph jerky operation. Easy fix.

Look at the transmission and hydraulic filter. Gray filters mean it's never been serviced; which you can use as leveraging on the pricing. Figure the cost of the filters and fluid into your negotiations.

They're good tractors if they're taken care of. I would like to have one myself, that or an L3200/L3800. Perfect size for a hobby farm or even a homeowner but I wouldn't consider it a farm tractor, except for small jobs. Neglected and abused, they aren't great. Sounds like you've found a decent one, though. Is it a Kubota loader on it or woods or koyker or??

I got this one in 2009. Here in Kalifornia, you can buy harvest returns for about 9-10k. This one had 135 hours...and when I got it...bought the BH76 and loader too. Dealers threw in the full service and loaded tires.

I have not had one thing go wrong or to bitch about. I have also noticed that on this site, over the years, there are very few L2800 issues.

I do not have the HST...so no comment on that. This one does everything I need it too...

Good luck.

Just got back fromm seeing this L2800.

Here's my questions/concerns:

-This model does not come with a primary and secondary air filters? Only one was installed.

-This model is full time 4wd? Did not see a control lever to engage/disengage?
Owner said there was no control lever on this tractor.

-Looked for the hydr. fluid dip stick/sight guage and could not locate either one?
What concerned me was that the owner of 7 years, had no idea where
the dipstick/sight guage was. He never looked for it, and obviously never checked the
fluid level.

-Checked the FEL operation and it seemed very smooth and accurate.
The power steering seemed to operate normally.

-Checked the 3ph operation with a ballast box full of stones attached.
Operation was VERY JERKY DURING THE RISE. Smooth decent.

-The one thing I noticed is that the control lever had to be moved all the way to POSITION #5
before it would begin to move the 3ph.
Does this indicate that the 3ph control unit needs to be replaced?

-The owner told me that he had the rear tires filled at the dealer when he orignally placed his order in 2010.
*The rear valve stems are very badly corroded! The fronts are like new.
I'm thinking that the rears are loaded with a corrosive salt solution?

If they are, and the stems are badly corroded, what is the fix?
Are the inside of the rims corroded, as well? Can this be resolved?

Thanks in advance for your help.

-The dual air filter was an option. I've never once seen it installed on an L2800, and I've seen a couple thousand of them.

-It can be taken out of 4x4. The lever is a "tee" shaped lever just behind your left calf as you're sitting in the seat. Pull up for 4wd, push down for 2wd.

-It has a sight glass, and I hate them. It's on the left side of the hump, about where your heel rests, kinda behind teh clutch pedal there's a "cutout" in the hump sheet metal, and that's where the glass is. You're right-that's bothersome that the owner had no idea how to check the oil level. And this obviously says that he's never serviced it. Price drop. BTW there is a "kit" that replaces the glass with a dip stick but it's not cheap.

-The jerky 3 point is not uncommon. Set the idle speed to idle, and it's better. The 3ph control valve doesn't have the functionality of a larger more expensive tractor, as the 2800 and 3400 were "budget minded" tractor. The pump moved oil faster at higher engine speed, thus the 3ph raises faster...making it more jerky as engine speed increases.

-The control lever has numbers used as a reference only. It's not an "inching valve". Read above...it's a "cheaper" Kubota tractor.

Possibly. You'd want to find out what the dealer put in the rear tires. Or add the cost of replacing the pair of wheels and stems to your bargaining power.

Based on what you're saying, I'd offer $10k, and then you'll have to spend another $250 (if you do it yourself) to do a full service on it, since it appears that the owner hasn't done much. Did he have any service records from where he paid someone to do it?

He had it serviced by a local sales and service business in his town. They sell and service smaller equipment and do his work. I spoke to the owner and he remembered doing the 100 hour service on this tractor. He used Kubota fluids and filters.

-Looks as if it was used full time in 4wd. He said it was full time 4wd. I did see the t-lever you mentioned. He does not know what it's for.
Is it bad for the machine if it was operated for all that time in 4wd, only?

-I did operate the 3ph lever at idle, as you had suggested. It was less jerky than at a high idle, but still uncomfortably jerky. It seems to work like an inching valve. Any fix for this? I see some have replaced the rubber hose by the brake pedals, will this help?

-Any idea as to what new rear rims, stems, and labor would be on this model?

-Where is the suction screen located on this model? Wonder if the (non-Kubota) mechanic did not
clean this screen?

Am I right in assuming that the valves have corroded due to the fill material?
There is no reference as to what was used on his purchase receipt. I will call the Kubota Dealer and try to find out.

Thanks for your imput!!

Cheaper models will only have single filter, but you can add second filter.

No it's not full time 4wd, there is a lever to engage and disengage it, I don't remember off the top of my head where it is.

Sight gauge for fluid level is by your heal on the left hand side.

Semi common issue with the three point.

The valve is a non proportional valve, it's either on or off, and despite the #'s for levels it really doesn't have a level adjustment.
so no it's not an indication that it need a new valve, and FYI the new grand valve is not cheap, $1k if I remember correctly.

If the rims are rusted from calcium chloride, about the only "Proper fix" is to replace the rims with new ones.

What is the new grand valve?

Is there a way to eliminate the jerky motion on the 3ph?

Yes it can cause some serious damage to drive components if it's been operated on hard surfaces. ;)

To eliminate the jerking three point you install a grand valve.

The grand valve is a valve that was installed in much better and nicer equipped models.

One thing I noticed today is that the R4 tires seemed to be too worn and full of cuts on the treads. Just did not look right for a machine with only 200 hours. Could this be the cause-running full time in 4wd?
Yes it could be a cause.

Yes the Grand valve is just that....a position control valve from a GRAND L tractor. I want to say L3130/3430 but may be wrong.

The Grand L's had a much smoother 3ph lift, but that tractor also costs a LOT more. As said, the L2800/3400 and L4400 were budget minded full featured tractors but to keep the cost down, they had to eliminate certain things that would otherwise make the tractor "nicer"; if that makes any sense. One of which was the better position control valve.

Thanks.

Is there a way to smooth out the operation other than replace the valve?
