Exactly what I was thinking,;)

when I got my 2nd B7100 - the stopper was not present, the dipstick was broken off somewhere new the full mark, how the hell that happens I have no idea.

I took heat shrink tape and cut small short pieces so the handle would fit nicely into the block and stop - I had to beat and stretch the broken end until it would touch the oil level. I use the stick out of my other B7100 to guide me as to what full should be.

The oil level on that engine is under 4 quarts - more like 3.2 quarts - but I would still make a high and low mark whichever quantity you select. Drilling a hole might not be the best idea, a small nick with a grinder would be perfect on the thin edge, even a file mark would suffice.

Mark sure you are on dead balls level ground - especially when making your initial marks.:D:)

Man I don't know overfilling is almost as bad as underfilling. Can someone post up a picture of their id tag so I can try and find mine?

Any other better ways to figure out oil capacity without knowing engine number ? Ultimately I would like to know what motor it is so I know I'm using no the right parts going forward

Older engines didn't have ID tags like newer ones have.

You posted a picture of part of the model #... It just shows the serial portion of the number.
It's the number on the block, right front, next to the injection pump.

Here is your pic, the rest of the number will be to the left.
You might have to remove the bleeder valve and the fuel line to be able to read the whole number.
There is also a number cast into the side of the block, your other picture only shows the head cast numbers and they don't do any good.

Most likely on your 7100, someone installed the dip stick while the engine was running and caught the lower end of the engine. Seen that a couple times on my d1005 engines. Makes a grinding sound as well :rolleyes: There isn't much distance between the lower rotating assembly and the dip stick.

That engine is out of a Jacobson Turfcat T422D, but the dip stick in it is not from either the original engine or from the Jacobson, that's why it's reading wrong.
The Jacobson specs show the same oil level as the Kubota B8200, 4 Quarts.
So like I said fill it to 4 quarts and mark the dipstick, or get the right dipstick for your tractor. ;)

And make sure the tractor is level first. You'd be surprised how much oil can hide in the corner if the tractor is not level...

Sorry guys, i am way to OCD to not go OEM on the dip stick haha! got that ordered today for the correct motor D950. In the mean time i will need to fill 2 quarts higher. I will let you guys know what i find when i get the new dip stick.

Any chance anyone would have a good detergent or additive to put in the oil. im sure the hours that it has been operating under 2 qrts its built up some burnt oil or harsh miles. anything i can add to get the stuff broken down and give the thing a fighting chance going forward?

Most oils have all those ingredients in them to fight the build up. I would be careful in "breaking" that up, if there is something to break up. And if that stuff is dissolved it will hopefully get trapped into the filter.

I would change the filter and add oil to the limit and check it often.

One way to "look" to see if there is build up it to shine a light in the oil cap hole and see if the valve train has stuff on it. You might be surprised and it is very clean. ;)

Running a good viscosity oil would be the best thing you could do - dino or synthetic - your choice.

AS long as the sump was pumping oil in the past - all should be ok.

Yea don't add anything to the oil, it will clean itself out if there is anything left behind. ;)

As far as additives - listen to Hokie and Wolfman - - - just say NO!

It will work itself out, do the next couple changes a little early. Keep an eye on the oil color on your new dipstick....

I'm with the others -- the best way to clean out the crankcase is just change the oil a little more often.

Diesel oil is high detergent, or it used to be. Just as the others mentioned, a couple 50 hour oil changes should be all you need.

Awesome thanks guys, were supposedly getting some snow tonight into tomorrow. want to make sure she's ready to roll. I planned on running a wix filter with rotella t5 semi synthetic.
