More in depth L4701 Specifications Please

Greetings all,

I am a new to this glorious orange forum which has helped me decide on a

Kubota L4701. With that said I am searching for specs not found on the web.

Specifically: Total length with loader installed

Total width with R4 Tires.

Total weight of above with Tires loaded (Beet Juice)

You may have guessed it I am looking to purchase a trailer for the beast.

Most likely a dump trailer. Decision on the trailer size will be based on the weight specs and dimensions of the tractor.

Looking for advice

Thanks again for the wisdom.

Buy a 20FT trailer tandem axle trailer with 10,000 pound capacity, which should be 3500 more than you need. But you add an implement on and you need the extra room. Rotary cutter on the machine may not fit unless you put the bucket over the tounge.

+1 what Pat said. Also remember having a longer trailer gives you some margin to position the tractor for proper balancing.

Get 7K axles with electric brakes. I blew too many of the tires on 5ker axles and I was under 6,000 lb's. Tandem axles of course... Keeping your freeway speeds down helps too.

When I went looking at what I'd need to tow my MX5800 with FEL and Hackhoe, I discovered my F150 would not handle that large a load on my car carrier - neither would my car carrier.

So, I bought a new truck.

Now I need an equipment trailer.

And all this time, I thought all I needed was a bigger tractor!

So, I bought a new truck.

Now I need an equipment trailer.

And all this time, I thought all I needed was a bigger tractor!
Expensive endeavor, but fun

New dealership promotion- matched tractor, implements, trailer, and appropriate truck.

I'm digging up an old post because I want the same info as the OP. I can measure the tractor at the dealer but still need to know the weight.

Initially I had a 7x16 dump trailer for my L3301 but didn’t like the steep (and slick when wet) approach, especially with my backhoe on, so eventually got a smaller (dedicated) 10’ dump and for hauling the tractor, got a 20’ gravity tilt equipment trailer (7’ wide)—more than enough for my purposes.
I can’t imagine any scenario whereby a 4701 might need something wider than that.

I have that brochure and none of the OP's questions are answered on there. I reached out to Kubota with these questions and at least got one of them answered. The LA765 loader weighs in at (aprox.) 1155 lbs. That puts the tractor and loader at about 4,462. According to Rim Guard's tire fill calculator the rears would add 610 lbs each and the fronts would be 128 lbs each. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to have the fronts filled but if all four were filled then that brings the tractor/loader to 5,938. My 7K lbs. GVW trailer is not going to haul this. (safely/legally) Probably would need 10K minimum and at least 24 foot deck for this and a 6' bush hog.

I agree—no doubt you’re looking at a minimum 10K trailer. I went with a 14K in case I moved up in size at some point. And the longer, the better—my bug hog tail wheel hangs off the back of my 20’ when I have it in the right spot for tongue weight %. More flexibility to position stuff as needed if you go longer than shorter.

I have a L4701 and a 16’, 14,000lb equipment trailer. Long story but I got it for $0 and have $750 of rehab work in it to get it roadworthy with the caveat that the prior owner (my Dad) can use it whenever he wants despite the fact he hadn’t actually used it in 30 years. There should be a bunch of photos attached so you can see the tractor actually on the trailer for size purposes. Some of the photos may be pre-rehab so if it looks like a dangerous piece of crap that needs tires and a license plate, it probably was.

Anyway, as you can see, with a 16’ bed, the box scrape barely fits with the loader hanging off the front of the bed a bit. With loader and bush hog, I’d have to put a red flag on the back of the bush hog as it would be hanging off the rear of the trailer. I do need to trailer it once in a while but not often. So far once to the dealership, once back, and once for a charity/church job. If I towed a lot, I would have ponied up the $ for a tilt bed at least 20’ and we would have sold this one as is. Trailer looks pretty big until the tractor is sitting on it. Then it gets small real quick. If it had flip up ramps instead of slide ins, or if it had some obstruction on the front preventing overhang, it would really be too short.

Weight isn’t an issue. With loaded R4’s, loader, 525lb box scrape, etc. as best I can figure it’s running around 6,000lb +/-. Had the truck and trailer on a truck scale at the dump once and as best I could guesstimate based on the weight of the empty truck + my fat butt, the trailer is around 1500 - 1600lb. My truck is rated for 10,000lb, tows, handles, and stops solid as a rock. I also tow a 9,000lb camper all over everywhere so towing is not unusual for a me or the truck. I can keep up with the big rigs but not always the cars as I’ll run 70 with it but don’t think I’ve ever had it at full throttle with a trailer. I do what the truck is comfortable doing, which is plenty. Watch out for “car haulers” that have the right size bed but not the weight capacity. I was a bit surprised how many of those I saw with 7,000lb gross or less and by the time you take off the trailer weight the remaining load capacity isn’t really sufficient.

Also watch out for no name Chinese tires. Yes, they’re pretty much all made in China but quality control varies by manufacturer. I’ve heard Greenball makes good tires but have never used them. Have run Kenda Loadstars on all my campers and various trailers with zero blowouts in probably well over 100K combined miles. My current camper still has some minor scars from the no names that came on it, one of which blew at 60mph on a cool, rainy day 50 miles after correct pressure was confirmed. It was a back tire and it shredded so hitting something was pretty unlikely. Don’t skimp on tires and make sure the weight rating on tires is sufficient for the trailer/load combined weight.

If you really want the specific measurements, reply that you still want the measurements and I’ll pull a tape on it to get them for you. If you’re just wanting to know what size trailer to buy, 20’ minimum if you ever plan to tow with both loader and an implement.
