Repaint?

First time owner of a Kubota. Purchased a USED 08' model T2080.... NEW to me!

Going though it maintenance wise... Fluids, filters, and general maintenance.

From the first time I started looking into this model or a Kubota period. I knew I was getting a good machine. Although used it was maintenanced by the 2 previous owners. 1st was the neighbor to the 2nd owner I purchased it from. They spent most of their time in the garage..... As it is... Eventually it was replaced by a larger ZT mower for the lots they each have.

Anyway.... I've also ordered some replacement parts to make it look nicer or to make it my own.

This isn't your average Big Box store Riding Tractor. The way it's built and the mere fact that the transmission is serviceable really makes me glad I ended up with it.

My first question is, if anyone, knows a Kubota Orange paint that is meant for or is safe for this plastic hood? Most paints I find are for all others materials besides plastic.

I would use a primer meant for plastic and then come in with your kubota orange. That way you will have the proper adhesion.

Appreciate that! One other question.... Would any sanding be required on my part in your opinion? Or would just primer do?

Depends on how nice you want it and what the product your using recommends. I would wet sand before painting with a 400 grit paper as the final and apply several coats (3 to 4)of enamel. Good luck to you.

A Scotchbrite pad is good for getting the surface keyed up for adhesion.

I repainted my Kubota metal hood with Kubota II Orange out of a rattle can over light grey primer. Not sure how that one-step orange would do on a plastic hood. Plastic flexes so much you usually see flex additives added to the paint. Might want to talk to a pro at an auto paint store. An alternative is to prep the hood and have an autobody shop shoot it.

I guess everyone has their own measuring stick of what they want something to look like. From the picture it looks like a nice hood. When you put the headlights back in some of what shows in the picture won't be visible.

You will have a good sum in the repaint, or a result you wish you didn't have, you get to choose.

Might just clean it real good and cover it with Aerospace 303 protectant and be happy.

Good point! I kinda was even thinking about plasti-dip. Something that won't be permanent and if I don't like it I can just take it off.

The dealer is telling me its Kubota Bright Orange... I'm not sure what looks closer out of my 2 choices. I'm leaning towards just Kubota Orange. Does it look dark enough for the Kubota Orange II?

It's Kubota orange II , they quit using Kubota orange I somewhere in the late 80"s if I remember right.

Thanks for the clarification! Can you or anyone tell me if there is a substitute on any brand that looks close?

There you go. You can find plasti-dip in cans or spray cans, and can change the color with the season. And...get a protective coating.

If you just want to make the orange plastic shiny again, it can be done without a single drop of paint.

Little polishing compound and a cheap parts store buffing wheel that goes in a handheld drill. Makes them look brand new. I wish I had a before and after picture of a T1560 I did recently.

Don't know why that never crossed my mind! I actually have a buffer but haven't used it much. I will give that a try before I decide to do any painting.

I gotta say I like it... But it's got me thinking more like Ariens that Kubota? I don't plan on doing that to mine.... But I really like how yours turned out! Thanks for sharing the picture!

Well..... Picked up 2 cans of Kubota Orange II from the local dealer. Also found it recommended to prime with Plastic Adhesion Promoter. Seems to give some coverage and supposedly keep the paint from cracking. It allows it to flex without the paint being affected.

Have those 2 things with some 400 grit sanding blocks. We'll see how that goes. Pictures to follow tomorrow. I'm done at this point. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Take a look at this pic... Just after applying 3 coats of Plastic Adhesion Promoter following the directions.. And applying 3 coats of Kubota Orange II in the can by the directions... Now it looks like an orange peel. What could've gone wrong?

Probably the two products are not compatible.
