After using my 2009 F150 with a similiar trailer I discovered what the little
"Tow" button was for. Huge difference.

I brought my B7610 home on a 7K trailer with brakes. My 11' F150 with 5.0 was less than stellar at towing. Going over Hogs-Back Mtn in VT was awful with my motor screaming to keep 45 mph. Very long 3 hours....

It was the single reason I dumped the truck. Been looking for a Super Duty or 2500HD to replace it...
Hogs back mtn, and heading over the mountain by mad river Glen will play hell with most trucks. Only truck I didn't creep up over them hills with was a first year power stroke that was naturally aspirated. Truck was an f250 short box converted to a dually with 411 gears. Truck would pull a thirty foot goose neck loaded with cedar like nobody's buisiness. Had more people follow me into a gas station and ask what I was running in it :p:D

Hogs Back exposed the 5.0's true nature to me. Flat land it was fine, but any real grade it had to sit at 4500-5000 rpms to maintain speed. Tow/Haul was cool that in would drop gears while you rode the brakes but the line of people behind me probably didnt care.

My 5.3 Tahoe with a 4 speed was a better match, but the short wheelbase and overall lighter weight made it less than ideal. Im currently deciding between a 2012 F250 with a 6.2 gasser and a 2011 2500HD with the Ol 6.0

I had a 4.6 liter f150 with the four speed auto. It handled the Bota fairly well around here. All though my GMC with the 5.3 liter does much better.

If your considering the v10 from ford, save your money. Even with the 6 speed auto it struggles in the hills. Company just bought me a new service truck with the v10. It's the f550. With just the utility bed setup it's at 12,000lbs. There's a fairly steep hill coming out of town with a stoplight at the bottom. Starting from the stoplight I can only get around 45 mph unless I pin it to the floor. Then I can get 55 mph. After filling the oil tanks and adding parts, it can only get 45 mph pinned. Add a 4500lb piece of equipment behind it and your looking at 35 mph up the hill. Plus the v10 gives a whole new meaning to the term fuel slut  Getting a whopping 6mpg in the city and 7.5 mpg highway  Same setup in a diesel gets 14 mpg city and romps up the hills with enough butt to get out of it's own way

I hear ya. I had a F250 4x4 CC with v10. Actually loved the truck (very few problems in 10 years). But if the wind was wrong you were getting single digit MPG.

I agree with Daren, I've got an F350 with a 7.3 diesel with a turbo and a Diablo chip. I can stick 15,000 lbs of horses and trailer behind it and not hardly know their there. Plenty of brakes too

My goodness what is this world coming to? My 79 F350 gas did better than that even when it was 24 years old and smoking pretty bad. No wonder the guy that bought it said he was going to restore it (pretty rusty). I did have to gear down to 3d with a fully loaded truck and horse trailer on a couple of grades going over the Rockies...
