Was out playing with my "new" L2250DL, and the left front wheel froze up. Jacked up the front end and pulled the entire left front axel, axel case, and the differential gear shaft out. Found what was left of a bearing had jammed the gears. This tractor had been running with out any gear oil for quite some time. Checked in my parts manual and ordered all new bearing, and oil seals. Started taking everything apart and found another bearing that was about to come apart. I am going to be doing the right front also.

Now comes the reason for the help. I am trying to get the bearing (ref. #30) out of the front axel and can't figure how to get circular clip (ref.#120) out. It is the only bearing that doesn't have a snap ring holding the bearing in, and I can't figure how to get the damn thing out. It looks like it is in two pieces, but there isn't room to get anything between the pieces to pry it out. I'm about to go to my last resort and get my dermal out.

Thanks,

Guy

When you post ref.#'s also include a picture or at least where you got the #'s from, because I just went through the entire front end on Kubota.com and I'm not getting any #30's as bearings.

My bad, it's a typo. Should have been ref. #130 bearing. The split ring is ref. #120, and the assembly is the Front Axel. This is out of the Illustrated Parts List that I d/l before I started taking it apart.

I tried posting earlier, had it all done and server crashed!

Here goes again:
Remove 090 and 070 from 080, place 080 face down on a board, use a piece of scrap pipe that is just large enough to go over the shaft on 080 and onto 120 and give it a good whack.
Then peel out 120 like an apple on a peeler.
If you don't have a piece of pipe you can use a large chisel to hit it a few times.
As only a last resort would I recommend cutting it out. ;)

Well, I smacked the heck out of it and it looks like the only thing I did was kind of flatten the top of the split clip. It is looking like the gap between the two halves is not enough to get anything in there to pry out the end. The end of one halve has a small tit that is pressing against the other halve, and that one has a small tit that is pressing against the other one. I think what I need to do is somehow cut one of the tits off so the halves will separate a bit more and I can get something in there and get under it. When I pry with a small screwdriver now is lifts about a 3/64 and then slips out.

Ok, for those of you that ever run into this problem, here is the way to get the split ring out.

First a little rant. I have been using IPB's (Illustrated Parts Breakdown), for a large number of years, and normally the way the parts are shown is the way they come apart or go back together. NOT this time. The only way to remove the split ring (REF #120) is to remove the collar (REF #110). End of rant.

All you need to do is slip a screwdriver under the collar and pry or twist and the collar slips right off the split rings. Everything else just sort of falls apart except the oil seal, and it just takes a few taps with a punch and out it comes also.

And as my wife so eloquently put it, if I had paid the $150.00 for the service manual, she wouldn't have had to listen to me grumblin' and mumbling' around the house for four day. Yes, I am now ordering the manual.

Just an update on the front axle progress. I have both front axles in my workshop, have broken them completely down, and am now waiting for the new parts to come in. I am replacing all the seals and bearing, although the bearings in the right side could probably be reused. I'll keep them for that "just in case" emergency. The first two pictures are what a 2250 looks like with out any frontend, and the next two are the complete right front assembly laid out. Now just waiting for part.
