Thats the cadillac of skidder attatchments, built in winch. Very nice unit.
The one we had was 20 years ago. Didn't have the guard for the occupant. Easy to use. Flip a lever for free spool to wind. Could leave the pto engaged. When you want to wind it, you just grab a chain the was hooked to a lever. Pull on the chain would engage the clutch and it would spool it in. Had to watch it though. Was fast has hell.

I'm curious as to why multiple people think a strap is safer. I personally wouldn't consider using a strap unless it would always be suspended and not dragged. I've seen what a dragged strap looks like and it becomes junk. Just curious about the safety aspect
Straps are by far safer.....only problem is that they cut, rub, chafe, absorb oil, grit and all the little things that cause it to break down slowly over time. Anytime a load it pulled on, check a strap end to end.

Personally I like chains or a choker, harder you pull the better it bits. HOWEVER, I have seen the results of a chain, and shackles when they break. I knew a student that was pulling his truck out of a ditch with a dozer, shackle broke came through the back glass of the dozer, hit him in the head. Needless to say - he was changed for life, and not in a good way:(

Anytime I pull something with the slightest tension, I always think, where is the coming to a rest if it breaks! Sometimes I change by thoughts or decision.:)

I am too old to play stupid - if I can help it!

Chains work great if you work smart,,

Also a choker chain really helps to grab trees/stumps, makes life way easier, you can make one yourself or buy one..

Everything we do with a tractor can be dangerous it really is just that simple, just figure out the safest way to do what needs to be done and approach it slowly and intelligently to lessen the risk

Used it all, straps, chains, cables, rope, even bailing wire a couple of times.

Safe? Maybe not.

Works? Sure thing.

Safe is more about knowing how much energy you are putting into something. If you're towing out a 40' Oak, that's a lot of energy, use a stronger pull mechanism. If you're dragging that 9' pine out, not so much energy and you could use your dogs leash to drag it out.
