Let it snow!

Turns out when i last posted on this thread we didnt get much snow. Stayed above freezing until tuesday, then we got hammered. So now very cold and a foot of snow in the yard. It was cool to see grass last weekend. River just starting to freeze over, at least 2 weeks later than the latest it has ever stayed open.

Just put the (new to me) BX1500 tractor and LA181 FEL to work, removing 6 to 8" of wet/heavy snow from our gravel and blacktop driveway. Put the snow right where I wanted it and didn't break a thing. Good times.

There's a guy a couple of towns south of me that makes V8 powered walk-behind blowers. IIRC, he can toss the snow 126'.

Spent over two hours tonight blowing snow at the airport. The B7200 and 51" Meteor blower were working like a charm. It amazes me how such little rated engine horsepower can do so much work.

This tractor has no lights whatsoever so it was a real pleasure blowing snow under what looks like a full moon. Just a lovely night to be out.

Geez - we've had 3 feet plus since Thanksgiving week. More coming tonight/tomorrow morning - 4-6". Nothing like north of Syracuse, though.

Was -10F this morning. 9 right now, and they're saying RAIN tomorrow afternoon and Sunday! Then 20 on Monday....

Makes managing a stone driveway with a snowblower a little challenging, to say the least!

Couple of buckets of sand from the Town's sandpile in the cellar so they don't freeze!

Was 35 degrees here today. 20 degrees last night. Calling for 70 degrees tomorrow Then sleet and snow tomorrow night with a low of 20 degrees Wish Mother Nature would make up her mind!!

we have 4-5 inches on the ground, been cold, sub zero. -8f or so tonight and then a warm up to high 20's in a few days. Makes for clear air. Lots of wood, food, just about anything we are ready for. Hate wind though, lots of trees about. Kind of enjoying hibernation and tucking in!

Like you, plenty of food and supplies to make do at hand.

We have lots of trees too. Cut the power, and things get a little more challenging with generator, etc., especially when sub-zero.

Down East...Road a bus into Machias ME one February 1968. I was being stationed at the navy base at Cutler Harbor. It was -25f 20mph wind. It was the first time I had seen frozen sea water.

I went to Maines grocery in Binghamton early this morning for Christmas dinner stuff. About a 35 mile trip, all on 2 lane country road.

Maines is a restaurant supplier for mid-atlantic to northeast, and have a few GREAT retail grocery stores. Can buy the same stuff the restaurants do. As an old restaurant cook - love the place. Had to be done this weekend.

We had ~6" early this morning. Nothing was plowed when I left at 7:30am. Roads were nasty.

I had the 2013 Silverado in 4wd whole way, and really had some wiggles on a big hill....I'm born and raised upstate New York, all in very rural area. Not my first time driving in snow.....

On way up and back, two a$$wads were attached to my back bumper. First was a Chevy Cavalier, other was a Ford Focus....... If I can't see your headlights over my tailgate in my rearview mirror, you're too f@cking close!!!

WTF are these people thinking?!? My 5,200lb truck, in 4wd, with good tires is going 40mph easily, but does that mean go 50?, 60?, 80?

At one point the Focus Boy was so close, he lost the tracks we were driving in. In my rearview mirror, I could see the car swerve too and fro, the hands working the steering wheel, and see his head snapping back and forth. Real classic!! You can bet your ass he was "focused" for a few seconds!! He did save it...

Anyways - I had my window down, arm hangin' out (23 degrees) enjoying the drive and drinking my coffee....

But where is common sense??!

My favorite is when they pull in front of you when your trying to get some momentum to get up a steep hill. They can see me coming but decide to back out anyways making ya come to a stop on a icy hill.

When I was clearing snow at the end of the driveway I was parallel with the road sticking out about 1 ft into the road, bright orange tractor with lights and flashers on. Two times I had a cars drive by me about a foot away from me, plenty of road for them to steer clear of me. Nope, get nice and close so if ya lose control just a little bit going uphill to boot you'll hit me head on and kill me I always face the traffic so I can bail if I had to but wtf is wrong with people? I think I might have to get a go pro and film it so there's proof they were in the wrong.
