Vibration in high gear traveling at max speed

I want to throw this out to the folks at OTT... during the last big snow we had here in Maryland I got my B2410 4 WD HSD hung up a couple of times. I rocked myself pretty hard to get free in both cases;however, now when traveling at high speeds in high gear only I have a distinct vibration.... like possibly a drive line knock?

It was not there before... coincidence... beats me.

I have almost 900 hours on the tractor...

Sounds kinda like a u joint. Have you checked those for movement while holding it in your hand with tractor in neutral AND SOMEONE THERE HOLDING BRAKE FOR YOU. know one guy whose 4 wd truck was doing that and he didnt check it one day he came home from taking children to school . Ended up he had a passenger the durn thing droped the front u joint came up thru his floor board. handy

Sounds kinda like a u joint. That is scary!
I was told a long time ago that if the front end of the U-joint broke then the driveshaft whould dig in and could flip the car end over end.

Hey Scott... Mythbusters tried to launch a vehicle with a severed driveline.... the car never flipped no matter how hard they tried...

Anyway... long story short... I have not been under the tractor yet.... but one thing more before I do...

The vibration/chatter noise.... would it still come from the front drive line even if the tractor was in 2 WD?

I think I know the answer seeing it does not have lock out hubs like my truck... I'd like an opinion from the OTT folks before I roll under the tractor.

PS... I am not letting my wife drive the tractor for reasons stated in the thread... I don't want her lip prints all over the orange paint when she kisses it nighty-night

Hi Butch. Even with it in 2 wheel the front diff may still turn the front driveshaft. For that matter I think it would have to. No locking hubs.Please let us know what you find. Dusty P.S. If what PTWYZ says is true maybe you can rent it out for big bucks.

The front u joint caught road then rear of the drive shaft (ON the front )in front of the transmission gave way put a lot of pressure on front of front driveshaft and the rear broke the ujoint in front of his transfer case this forced the front driveshaft thru his floorboard I hope I explained this so you can understandwhat I am saying .He didnt wreck the front driveshaft DID COME THRU FLOOR I SAW IT. As far as the shaft spinning when in 2WD, I believe Dusty is correct. When you engage 4WD the transfer box (or whatever) is on the aft end of the fwd driveshaft. Thus if you are in 2WD the shaft will be back driven by the front wheels as long as the tractor is in motion.

Seems like you're gonna have to get on your back and slither around with a flashlight. I don't think the scrapes and such are gonna be too difficult to find. You got fire ants out there? Better choose your back crawling area carefully

Well I fussed cussed and slithered under the tractor....

No dings dents or otherwise "Butch" caused damaged

However, I do have to replace the U-joints on the front drive shaft That is what is making the racket....

Sounds like those U-joints weren't the only things making the racket while you were fussing, cussing and slithering around on your back

Well Butch I'm glad you did get it figured out and didn't have any "Butch induced catastrophic failures"
