Tractor won't start after changing filer on L1801

Help please. I changed the filter on my L1801. Let the bowl fill, tightened it up. Started and ran for about 5 seconds. Tried to restart and it would restart and run for few seconds. I found a quarter turn knob that looks under injector pump and let diesel run through. Tried again, no go. Opened the compression deal and cracked both injectors. Turned it over and no diesel coming out of injectors. This is a L 1801. Hasn't been serviced in a while. Help please. I can't afford a bill from a shop. Thanks.

Start at the bowl, open it until diesel runs out then tighten, open bleeder on the side of injector, crank till fuel comes out while cranking close bleeder, crack both fittings at the top of the injectors, crank till fuel comes out and tighten while cranking, Heat glow plugs, set throttle to full then start. Some times it takes a couple times bleeding the older tractors to get them to take off.

I'm guessing the bleeder is the thing I turn a quarter turn. Fuel comes out of that. But I'll start the process over. Thanks a bunch.

If your cranking and your not getting fuel out the injector lines you have an air bubble somewhere before it.
Make sure to loosen the injector lines at the injectors at the same time as your bleeding the side of the injector pump.
You should get fuel in about 10 or less cranks.
Also if it's cranking slow give it a boost to get it up to speed.

Don't let the starter get too hot or you will burn it out.

Don't crank it too long at one time.

Be sure to let the starter cool down between cranking cycles.

This is the MRS. I came late to the fuel filter changing party. I watched some videos which leads me to ask...There is a nut directly to the right of the fuel filter at the end of a hose...is this the bleeder valve??? The valve my husband was turning releases the diesal of the tank. It flows steady.

There is a banjo bolt (bolt with a hole) or a cap, that is on the side of the injector pump.
That will bleed the air out of the system from the tank threw the filter and up to the injector pump, the second bleeding spot is at each injector.

Your model will look different, (this is a B7100, 3 Cyl. engine), but will have the same points.

I love it!

The instructions that Wolfman gave might be on a label under the hood and will be for your model of tractor.

I had a gentleman farmer friend give me a call some time ago when he ran out of fuel on his older IH diesel tractor. I asked him if he wanted the good news or the bad news first. Kind of hard describing over the phone how to bleed his fuel system when he has a very limited mechanical knowledge.

Okie dokie then, your hubby is a lucky guy. Hope he knows it.

Now, that doesn't change the situation! Follow Wolfman's procedure.

I watched many videos and read all instructions and then pulled my own knowledge from growing up with a dad and grandpa who insisted I learn it. Girls need to learn too. Thanks The MRS.

The tractor is mine. I have been working the garden and the yard with a walk behind tiller and push mower. It gets rough in triple digit heat. I might let my husband ride it a time or two. lol The MRs.

This is the MRS. and yes of course I did:) I ordered an operators manual for a L185 in the hopes it would help me identify unknown levers. That hasn't worked out so well. Ok so my tractor is a L1801 grey market and my Japaneese is rusty. lol While sitting on the tractor, there is a lever with a red knob to my left with Lo to HIwritten on the inside hub but the lever attaches to the area just below me. My confusion rests in the fact that on the area below me I have a PTO Hi Neutral Lo/ multiple gears (hi gears 1 thru 8) (lo gears 1 thru 8). I initially thought the red knobbed lever had something to do with the wheels but I am not sure. Can you help?

If I'm reading this right you will have 2 high low levers.
One is High and Low range of the transmission 1-8 low and 1-8 high

It's the MRS. again. I lucked up and was able to get an original Parts Manual for the L1801. The parts manual says the red top lever is "aux s- change lever". Now, on the gear box directly below between the seat and steering wheel is a PTO hi/lo. My understanding of the parts manual leads me to believe that the lever to the left of my seat also is a PTO. My question is: do they work together (do they both have to be in hi or lo position same time) or Do es it matter. I am trying to locate an operators manual but no luck yet.
