Tractor won't start after changing filer on L1801

I have a L185 so it is similar but not exactly the same.

On top of the transmission (between your legs) is a gear selector with 1 through 4 (low) then 5 through 8 (high). This is on the right hand top or the transmission.

On my tractor there is only one Hi/Lo lever and that is for the transmission and it is on the left side of the transmission.

The PTO selector is on the left top of the transmission (between your legs again) and it has 1, 2 and 3 with 1 being 540 RPM PTO speed.

I am pretty sure that on your tractor you can have the PTO in high and the transmission in low or vice versa and neither will do damage to the tractor.

Do not have the PTO speed going faster than the implement's rating. Most implements in the US are 540 RPM.

This is the MRS> so let me clarify...The lever on the left is the transmission. Currently that lever is in hi. We have not moved it because we were not sure what it was. I am understanding from your post that if I have the PTO in low then the transmission lever on the left can be in hi. And if the PTO is in hi I should put the transmission lever in LO???? bear with me me I want to fully understand my little tractor.

The PTO levers are independent of the High / low shift lever.
In other words one does not effect the other.
The High / Low shift effects the moving speed of the tractor, along with the shifter, Low gears 1-4, high 5-8 and Reverse low and reverse high (There could even be 1-8 on low and 9-16 on high).
The PTO High / Low lever effects the speed of the PTO spinning on the rear or MID PTO (belly) of the tractor.
If you have 2 PTO levers one is for MID PTO operation and one is for rear PTO operation.

I have nothing on the PTO but the three speeds (1,2,3) and neutral shown on the shifter. The PTO shifter is on the left top of the transmission.

In your case you can be in low transmission and low PTO, Hi transmission and high PTO, Low transmission and Hi PTO, Hi transmission and Low PTO
