Anybody that has a freekin HP laptop with windows 8? The OL does, and the hard drive went south according to geek squad,,, don't ask how I feel about them,,,, anyway she bought the damn thing at Sams club who will not honor the return policy because its over 90 days, geek squad says the hard drive is fried and they will do the install for nada but the hard drive is going to cost 150 bucks, so I try to get in touch with HP bad freekin move,, They wont trust geek squads determination that the hard drive is toast and they want me to do dianogists on line with some freekin Indian or Hindi that cant speak freekin redneck!!!! And all day I have been getting the run around from one to the other and back to the beginning again... :curse: :curse: :curse: :curse: :curse: :curse: :curse: :curse: :badday: :badday: :badday: :badday: :badday: :badday:,, All I want to do is send it back for warranty work,,,and they wonder why I hate people most days

Hi skeets, yep been there with HP also, they used to make decent kit a few years back but now its all rubbish kit.
I am still using a HP pavillion laptop that is 5 years old, maybe older as it hd windows XP on it, works brilliant
just upgraded to vista and it works really well.

anyway, dont expect to much from them warranty wise on domestic user kit , hope you get it sorted.

Okay skeets I see you are mildly pissed.

Is the laptop warranted by HP for one year? If so, follow all steps below, if not just repeat steps 1 & 2.

Step 1 - consume adult beverages tonight until problem doesn't seem so bad.
Step 2 - go to bed and sleep off the excessive consumption
Step 3 - wake up in morning and call HP, (after 3 cups of coffee) tell them you must speak with manager in English (they won't get redneck-speak).
Step 4 - tell manager you want it fixed, ask for RMA number for return under warranty.
Step 5 - if the manager won't do a return without trouble shooting, tell him you are illiterate, hard of hearing, and knows where he lives.
Step 6 - if all of the above fails, tell the OL she has a problem, then duck, then repeat steps 1 & 2.

Up here in Canada when asked for English or French I just ask for French. You are immediately re-directed back to Canada and they have to be bi-lingual and can speak English.

If you have another PC that you can access the internet, you can download a free hard drive diagnostics program from Seagate(it will test any brand but will only attempt to fix Seagate drives). You will download a file with a name similar to seatools.iso -- you also need a CD or DVD RW(ReadWrite) drive and one write-able CD or DVD. When you double-click the iso file a window should open - select the BURN to disk option. Let the operation finish - remove the CD/DVD from the drive and install in the CD/DVD drive of your failing PC and wait for it to boot the program from the CD. Click on the drive that appears in the list (if there is no drive listed - exit the program and reboot or CTRL-ALT-DEL - if it reboots a second time and no drive is listed then your drive is not being recognized by the operating system -BAD). Select the 'Basic' test first and then the 'Extended' - if you have a Seagate drive and it finds bad sectors on the disk it will stop with a list of the sectors and ask if you want them repaired(the drives have spare sectors on them that the software on the drive can swap with the failed ones). I have had pretty good success with this program. The attached URL also has instructions with it as well as the download - it boots up in DOS so it does not matter what version of software(OS - Operating System) that is loaded. I have run across a couple of configurations that would not properly display the 'control panel' to navigate through the program. Good luck!

OK I got the POS back from the geek squad ,, called the number in the book,, and hooked right up to New Delia,, oh joy of joys,,, Now this guy wasn't to hard to understand so I explained the whole story with pictures and arrows and 5 part harmony,, and he says vell I want you to take the back off the computer please,,, HUH??? der isa screw in de back take it out please... I said I don't have a screw driver,, he says,,, you don't have a screw driver???? Ah no!! Well I will wait until you get one, right about now I want to reach though the phone and choke him, Ya gota love the Swiss army knife, the small blade works grate OK its off,, now pull out the hard drive and disconnect the wires,, WTF? I cant hardly see in there and you want me to pull the hard drive and wires?? yes please I said you better makje sure that you have this down that you told me to pull this,, Oh yes sir it is,, lying little bastard , anyway I cant get it out I tell him that,, why cant you get it out he says,, GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR,, look let me talk to your boss,, OK so another push start gets on,, I go through all the same things with him tell him what the diagnostics were, the HD is toast, no I have to go through the same shit with him,,, Ok So now we have determined that the HD is toast,, he wants to send ME the HD and have me replace it WTF??? I said dude I cant get my fingers in there to pull it out,, OH are your hands that large? Ohh how I would love to show you, So after an hour and 45 minuets they are going to send me a shipping box to return it for repair,,, IF THEY FEEL THAT THE UNIT HAS NOT BEEN TAMPERED WITH IN ANY WAY,,, other wise I will have to pay

So as of this moment I am ready to nuke New Delia and HP tech support,, I figure that in about a month I should have it back

Well I'm not in India but still a long ways off or I could help you out.
I got an HP laptop from a guy I work with, it used to be his OL's. It was free to me.... maybe he was getting it out of his misery too. LOL

It is still an OL's machine. I fxed it and my wife is using it every day now. There were a few times I wanted to smash it with a hammer for all the frustration it was. I had to totally tear it down to replace some bad parts and get it going. Tearing down a laptop is a major ordeal. I don't recommend that for a fun time. If it weren't for the HP manual download that had all the steps in it I would have smashed it in tiny bits.

Well good news,,, I get the damn thing back and it works, though she has not had a chance to do anything with it yet,,,, Now since it was delivered Friday afternoon,, I have gotten anywhere from 15 to 20 calls from HP ,,, I should be ashamed but this was the last call
