Looking for Non-CDL Dump Truck Recommendations

1999 F550 dumptruck. 89,000 miles with plowblade. 7.3 litter powerstroke. $12,200.

Only drawback is that it had a cracked frame over the duel axle that was plated over and welded. I spoke to a professional truck driver and he told me that cracking frames and welding plates over them is pretty common in the trucking business. I will have a welder check it to see if it needs further reinforcing.

I am buying a new trailer so I can pull my L3800 around.

NO! There is air assist brakes that do not require a CDL. Emergence vehicles and large recreation vehicles with air brakes are exempt from requiring a CDL.

A CDL is for an operator of a commercial vehicle for hire. You can own trucks all day long without a CDL you just can't drive them.
I had purchased a brand new peterbuilt 330 in 2003. I spec it at 26k with air brakss. No CDL required. If it was rated at 26001lbs you need a airbrake endorsement but no CDL. In other words if you installed air brakes on a f350 you don't need a cdl to operate it.

I'd be real leery with a cracked frame on a one ton tucks. Big rigs can handle it and be patched back up because most of them are double framed and can take the abuse.

You might want to double check into that one boss. Even though its right at or just under the 26000, that extra one pound is what separates a class B to an A if you're towing more then 10,000lbs. And air brake endorsement is typically required if a commercial truck has that system.

Agreed that thing had to be badly abused . Was over priced big time in my eyes .

But long as ya happy I guess .

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I am thinking to have a welder look over the frame and weld on additional plating if necessary. I imagine that with enough plating that frame can be made stronger then it ever was even when it was new.

First off did it come with a salvage title for having a cracked frame.

Two I do not think you can weld on these newer trucks because the computer system to the engine will get fried.

For the money they want for a broken turd trying to be polished into a new truck I'd find something else in alot better shape. Hell on my local Craigslist theres a 97 GMC 3500 with a dump body, L pack tool box and a 7.5 foot plow in MUCH better shape then that F-550 for like $7,500

The deal breaker to me is the cracked frame. I'd walk away. And why are the sides of the dump body black and not red like the rest of the truck? Did some dipshit over load it blowing out the sides of the body and thus cracking the frame.

You need to talk to the body shop at a Ford dealer about this one buddy

Unless it was in an accident and sustained damage of a certain dollar amount they titles will not be labeled as salvage.

If you have the ground next to or close to the area you are welding it will hurt nothing but regardless it is always best to unhook the battery cables to make sure and if still nervous then unhook the harness from the ECM / PCMs ect.

A 3500 chevy is not even a close comparison to the 5500 Ford chassis. Not comparing apples to apples here.

Cracked frames is not all that uncommon, I worked at a truck shop a few years and did frame plating and welding as well and frame lengthening and shortening, Depending on application and use, not saying it wasn't abused and overloaded which to break where it did with what he has pretty much says it was overloaded is not a deal killer, The amount of Fords with reinforced rear frames is large, I have done it and seen it many times.
Any pickup the has a hide away tow bar that gets used will crack a frame if not reinforced.
This is what I am talking about.

Yeah I'm well aware frames can be cut to length either stretched out longer or made shorter but they are done by PROFESSIONALS. I would not trust just any old welder or machine shop to do the welding.


Have a ball with the truck, it doesn't come back on me when shit goes south and something happens. I'm just trying to look out for somebody and throw out any and all possibilities. Don't tell your insurance provider about the cracked frame now or after an accident. They will more then likely have a shit fit and not offer you coverage.

Nice, that's going to be a good looking set up.

As far as the guys replying about CDL laws, doesn't it depend on the state you're in? I guess its a mute point as the add says its a non-CDL truck and I would assume you found out what is required or not required in your state.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little jealous of your new truck...
