What year is it? Newer I assume?
The newer ones have charcoal canisters, thanks to the EPA. They control fuel vapor emissions. They also have a set of check valves in the fuel lines and valves in the charcoal canisters. If any one of those valves fails, the fuel tanks will build pressure and fill the engine with fuel.
Conventional wisdom would say that the float valve is failed, but the float/carb is higher than the tanks and fuel level are (unless the tanks are full), so it can't gravity feed unless the tanks are completely full and parked facing uphill. Even then, fuel would have to get past the electric pump. It is not likely on these.
