I have a 2021 bx23s, I was doing the 10hr greasing and when I got to where the backhoe pivots, the zerk looks like it’s painted over. But there’s grease all around it like the guy from the dealership greased it before it was delivered. I don’t know if I should worry about this or not?

I tried scoring it with a pocket knife but it seems like it’s a fake zerk fitting?

I would take a steel brush and scrape the paint off. Doesn't look kike that zerk is going to take any grease.

Here is the swing frame parts diagram. Sure seems like a grease fitting to me. I would guess that the grease you are seeing came from a failed attempt to grease the fitting. Looks like whoever greased it the first time just pumped out grease over the top of the fitting. Maybe the best thing to do is just screw in a new grease fitting.

Good luck with it!

definitely scrape the paint off ! You'll need 10-12 pumps to get grease into the 'joinery'. I had 2-3 'orange zerks'. Be sure to 'rotate' EVERY joint several times after greasing and inspect that new grease is on BOTH sides of the 'stuff that moves'. Once everything is well lubed, it's usually just a 1-2 squeeze to 'top up'.

use a knife to scrape the paint off the top, then depress the ball slightly to free it. Then grease as usual.

Thanks y’all!
I keep grease fittings on hand. If it were me, I would just put in a new one and be done with it. The other suggestions will also work. Whatever way you go, it would seem that your question is answered.

Again, good luck to you!

I went out and scraped it and sure enough, there was the ball. So I pumped 12 pumps in each of the two and saw the grease come out. Then I fired her up and moved it around to make sure it got everything. Thanks again guys, really appreciate it.

Something like this may help, too. A zerk cleaning tool. Don't know how well it would do on paint on the outside, but made for cleaning dried up crusty grease and whatnot.

You now know that the only person that you can rely on to properly grease your equipment is YOU.

Yep, and when I suggested the steel brush for the painted zerk, it's because it has proved reliable before when zerks don't accept grease. The steel bristles will also rotate a stubborn zerk to accept grease again.....replacing zerks is a vast variety of sizes, making the working one easy peasy.

Depending upon the location/purpose of the greased article.... a problem with drilling, tapping, and threading for a new zerk.... is keeping filings and chips out of the mechanism.

Drill bit augers the chips out of the hole. Pack the flutes of the tap with grease and all the chips come out of the hole with it. Works great!

Take a small nail, wrap copper wire around it....
9 volt battery...

connect one end of the wire to +
connect the other end to -

Instant electro magnet.

stick to nail in the hole and it will remove any steel chips.

Works on ferrous metals, but the grease method works on all metals.

If it concerns you, remove it and replace it with a new one.
