I am having problems starting mower with key. I am hot wire starting it by touching cable and the slip on connection at solenoid with a screwdriver. I believe my problem is at the brake safety switch. Looking to remove and replace. If someone has done this I would appreciate some direction.

Describe your hot wire technique so everyone will understand what you are doing to bypass what switches.

I had what I thought was a problem with my brake safety switch. Turned out to be a small piece of wood was lodged under one of the motion control levers and prevented it from depressing it's safety switch. (Both levers have to be stowed AND the brake has to be applied)
Make sure all of the other safety switches are working properly BEFORE working on the brake switch. It's almost impossible to get to.

Thanks, that is good to know.

Well today I went over / tested all 4 safety switches, both movement arms / handles, PTO, I disabled the seat safety switch, I jumped it and taped it. I have a new ignition switch. Still same result. Will not start with the key, need to hot wire start as indicated above. Suggestions??? Thanks

if you don't have a service manual, that system can be a bear to diagnose a no-crank condition

pto switch
LH control arm switch
RH control arm switch
PTO switch
parking brake switch
OPC switch
battery
wiring
relays

all those can cause a no-crank condition.

have seen a few of them with wires corroded off of the relay connectors under the seat. IIRC there's a black plastic cover over the relays, remove the cover and inspect. That area never gets cleaned out and will corrode wirings.
