someone in my neighborhood is selling a freeze damaged Kubota ZD21 with 900 hrs. She claims that "it runs and the hydraulics are strong but during the freeze it froze and it now mixes water with oil". Price is at $3500.

Would this be an easy fix, or something major?

What to look for when I check the mower?

Thanks in advance.

Expect to need a new engine block, head and radiator and go from there.

I agree with ESERV... Add the cost of engine, head and radiator to the asking price. (plus labor)
Then ask yourself if it is worth it.

Just did a quick internet check of value... 2012 KUBOTA ZD21 For Sale Price: USD $6,295 .... I doubt that it is worth the $3000 difference to mess with it. I would offer her a $1000 if you are so inclined to messing with it. That would give you enough wiggle room to fix it properly. There is a lot of those older ZTR's out there, if you really want one.
