just came here for the first time and found there was a guy that had almost the identical experience , (almost identical) ,
I was mowing on a bank cutting in a field that was about to be baled , very tall grass, going slow and deck in Travel height . No problems cut like a beast. moved on to a long stretch flat ground still cutting in the perimeter for pre baling but much shorter grass , should have been easier on the zero. ..but..Started sputtering , shuddering then died . eventually got it limping back to garage .

some background for anyone kind enough to offer suggestions:
284 hrs . Recently, oil change , air filters and 3 new fuel filters , emptied and cleaned out fuel tank , ( I have NEVER gotten left side tank to feed so it’s been cut off almost since new, my bro- in law had same fuel feeding issue with his ZD 31 hp)
i always start job with fresh diesel on the right side tank.
also Like somebody else posted here , my trailer holds my 60” zd1211 but not my 72” so I’m going to have to troubleshoot and try and fix to the best of my ability. As the local dealer (the only close by one) is crazy $$$.
thanks in advance for any suggestions

I just had a similar thing happen with my L2501 tractor. It ended up being a air bleeder behind my fuel filter housing was loose and sucking air causing it to choke down and stall. Ran fine when first started for 10 or 15 minutes then it would act up. Let it set a while and same thing all over again.

This is assuming it is an older style fuel injection system, not an electronically controlled fuel injection system.

I think you basically “ran out of fuel” while on the slope and got air into the fuel lines. Then that got to the injector lines and now the injector pump is not able to produce enough pressure to get the injectors to pop open.

Try bleeding the system starting at the filter and working to the injector pump then to the injector lines at the injectors end. But really read your manual for the correct procedure for your equipment, It may be almost easy on yours just by opening some valve.

Thanks guys for a starting point , I think the “ basically ran out of fuel / air in line after mowing on the slope may be it . Also I may try and “ unplug the fuel cutoff valves under both tanks , even though I’ve mostly only ran one tank since new . ( never could get a feed from both , I should of gotten on the dealer I know) and see if there is a bunch of junk floating and blocking etc . Someone else had reported that as possible
. I’ll report back ...thanks again
