Take a few small rocks and a little bit of paint thinner, drop it in the tank and shake the hell out of the fule tank. The rocks will knock the rust loose and the paint thinner to clean the crap out of the tank. A buddy of mine but a O L D Hustler zero turn and it had tons of rust in the tank. So this handy trick worked for us. We learned the hard way not to drop in large rocks because the tank had a 2 inch lip on the inside of the tank from the filler neck.

To keep this from happening again you need to fill your tanks up every day after you use it. When the tanks get hot from normal and then get cooled down after being shut off or from a cool afternoon rain it will make the tanks sweat and then you will have water that will collect on every part of the inside of the tank that isn't covered by fuel. If your tanks are full of fuel the moisture has nowhere to collect and it can't rust. During winter storage the tanks need to be filled to the max and this will keep moisture from collecting during the cold weather also.
