I have a Zd28 that I purchased this year. The built in jack handle was missing when I bought it. I ordered/installed the handle and tried to lift the mower in order to access the blades for the first time. When cranking the adjuster it will move to the end of the center pin the slot but as soon as any weight is put on it nothing happens. Like the threads are stripped out. I pulled the pin on the adjuster and extended the the threaded rod and adjuster as far as I could by hand. Didn't see any terrible threads and re threaded well. Are the adjusters prone to stripping out? Any help would appreciated.

Clayton,

Look under the front cover. There should be 2 pins to the left of the pivot point that need to be removed before you can crank the unit up. You put one pin into the hole on the right side of the axle into the castor to hold it in place while you crank it up.

Very well could be stripped. Wouldn't be the first one I've seen with that issue. It's not torque that strips them, it's usually corrosion buildup, then someone grabs the jack handle, starts to turn it...won't turn...put more force on it...starts to lift, keeps spinning, bends the handle, handle gets thrown across the yard, said person stows the jack back up into the frame along with some inventive vocabulary and the rest is history.

I don't remember which mower was the most common, but I do remember that there was a roll pin that was easily sheared on them; and when it does, the jack spins fine but it just won't lift. Hard to describe what's actually going on but it's been known to happen from time to time.
