Hello,
I have had my Z421 53" now for 4 years. I mow about a total of 2 acres of normal lawn around my house (not fields, true lawns). About .5 acres is on ~6 different irrigation zones and 1.5 acres goes dry and dies in summer. My Z421 still has the standard lawn tires. The unit has 250 hours on it now.
I live in the pacific NW and our current weather is like this:
Spring wet as hell
Summer dry as hell, no irrigated lawn dies fast in June and is dead until fall rain just starts dumping.
Fall wet as hell.
There is no smooth transition period any more. In summer the grass dies hard and when fall hits, water just dumps on the lawn. Spring and fall are my issues since the grass grows extremely fast and thick and its hard to mow when its not wet.
With my current stock tires, summer is perfect, no problem mowing fast.
In fall and spring, the stock tires immedialy fill up with mud and have 0 traction to the point that I constantly leave tire skid marks everywhere no matter how careful I drive. You know, when you feel the tires slipping and you just start sliding and you look behind you to 2 5 foot long tire sized skid marks in your grass. I even get the mower stuck at time in certain parts of the lawn that have a very short sharp dip and I have to pull it out with my LX2610 tractor and this at times can leave 3" deep tire groves in those areas absolutely splattered with mud. I have no choice in this, the grass is growing so fast that if I dont mow it gets to the point that it can bog down the entire mower.
I’m wondering if there is a different tire I can purchase to fix this issue with more traction. My issue right now is the VAST amount of leaves that are dropping and I like to mulch them with the Z421 instead of leaf blowing for hours and hours. I’ve done some research and I see that there are "lug" type tires. I know these my rip up grass more if not careful but I'm pretty good at operating this thing now and believe I can drive carefully enough.
Does anyone have advice on this because Id like to act on this quickly... like in the next few days.
Thank you for your help.
