Yet another B2601 vs B2650 thread

My wife and I just bought a 5.5 acre place near Durham, NC. It's already fenced, and the land is cleared and decent pasture land. Slightly rolling landscape, and some mature trees around the yard. This will be our first tractor purchase, though before coming here we had use of Dad's 75 hp Mahindra back in Georgia for pasture/fence maintenance and moving large round bales.

Primary uses for us will now be digging postholes and mowing to maintain the pasture, and maybe even mowing the yard; pulling a small manure spreader, hauling square bales, and whatever other chores I can put it to use on.

I'm leaning toward a hydraulic auger on the SSQA, like the Landpride HD25. (I like the hydraulic augers because they tend to be safer than PTO augers, and are reversible; and being on the front loader allows downforce that you don't get from a 3-point mount.) And I'm also leaning toward something like the Caroni TL1500 flail mower.

B2650 pros:
Slightly more lift capacity (PTO and FEL)
Slightly higher hydraulic flow.
Slightly better ground clearance.
Landpride lists it as compatible for the PD25 auger.

B2650 cons (to me):
No option for R14 tires.
Digital dash.

B2601 pros:
Analog dash.
R14 tires.
Very similar to B2650 in terms of PTO HP and hydraulic pump capacity.
QuickTach loader, though this is a minor point to me.

B2601 cons:
Not listed as compatible with the PD25 posthole digger for some odd reason. (Landpride even list some BX series as compatible, but not the B2601!)
Slightly higher RPM for rated PTO speed.

I'd appreciate any advice or words of wisdom.

Personally, I prefer analog gauges for motocycles, cars, boats, but on a tractor the digital isn't really a con for me. I set rpm by sound and feel mostly and only really pay attention to the hour meter. For pto it's easy enough to set proper rpm and go. The digital display is easy to read day or night. I wouldn't let that make or break your decision.

As far as tires go, that could be the deciding factor if you are set on R14s. I run turfs and have had no traction issues, but I don't work in the rain or mud by choice.

To me they felt different even though the specs are very similar. I liked the ergonomics and feel of the 2650 much better. Get some seat time in both if you can, that might help you decide more than anything else.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll be pleased with either.

You can not run a SSQA auger, you don't have enough GPM to support it.

You will need to stick with a three point PHD, like the PD10 or PD15.

A PD25 is huge overkill for that little of a tractor, it's of no benefit to you or it to go that big.

Both great tractors.. Owned both, in real work applications the B2650 has noticeably more lift capacity, also prefer the 60" bucket over the 54"er. Got used to the Digital Dash and the Titan R14 Skins are supposed to be available next spring.

R14s available in the spring??

Ugh, now I have a reason to potentially wait on my purchase. They strike me as a good option and I'm seeing them more and more on the B01 series on dealers' lots. But I'm still not seeing many reviews yet.

Hmmm. The compatibility matrix shows that the HD25 on the SSQA is fine for the B2650:

https://www.kubotausa.com/docs/default-source/lp-pdfs/02-b-series-lp-implements.pdf

It's even listed as compatible with the B26 TLB, along with the SA20 hydraulic auger:

https://www.kubotausa.com/docs/default-source/lp-pdfs/12-tlb-series-lp-implements.pdf

I guess just because you can doesn't mean you should, but all of my dealings with Kubota have shown that their ratings and guidance tend to err on the conservative side. Based on that, and the fact that the HD25 operator's manual (https://www.landpride.com/ari/attach/lp/public/manuals/317-076m.pdf) says 5-12 gpm flow, I figured that the B2650 would work fine.

And since hydraulic flow is only 0.5 gpm lower on the 2601, and the weight of the HD25 on the FEL is only a couple hundred pounds, I don't really see why the HD25 could be used with the 2650 but could not be used with the 2601.

If NIW says it, go with his advice. Period.

I'm getting the confusion:

You need to go read the OP's post, very carefully, he says HD25 once, then lists them with PD25.

The PD25 is too big and bulky!

And I do stand corrected as a HD25 it will run, just barely, if you have any hard digs it just won't cut it.
But it will not run an SA20, the hydraulic unit I looked at.

The difference between the B2601 and the B2650 is not in the total flow, .5 GPM, it's in the available flow to the control circuit, the B2601 uses more for the steering and less for the available control side. ;)

My bad on the PD25/HD25 confusion! Thanks for keeping me straight. :)
