I wouldn't say I'm a romantic. Wife and I have 5 birthdays in November, 3 are the week of Thanksgiving, plus host thanksgiving dinner at the house. Both grandkids birthdays are December. Then Christmas, so where to start with that  We have 3 kids, there spouse's so that's 6. Two grandkids, and five nieces and nephews we shop for. Plus family gifts for our parents, and a couple brothers and sisters  The old bank account starts crying uncle about now. There are 12 stocking hanging on the mantle, one for each of us that will stay empty since it would be a mortgage payment to fill them ;) The only ones that get filled are for the kids.

So my wife and I usually do something small for each other, or just plan a vacation for after the first of the year when things slow down some. This year, I surprised her with a lap top, and she bought me a new tablet.

My wife always gets a big kick out of telling all the females, nieces and others at family gatherings how I bought her a bathroom scales for Christmas many moons ago! I don't turn red anymore, just roll with the punches.

So I thought maybe I'd renew the story with a new scale, but maybe digital this time!!:D

There's got to be some humor in it somewhere.

My wife works in store systems at a big box store - everything that has a computer attached to it is her responsibility. She has a mish-mash of tools so I bought her a computer repair kit of pliers, screwdrivers, etc. it a zipper bag. I didn't break the bank because I know she and her co-workers will lose / abuse them.

If you want to capitalize on the scales without losing your happy home, get the scales but put something really cool in the box with it!

You guys are all romantics, except of Cave Creek Ray, and maybe Tooljunkie.

I don't fit the mold!

I guess I'm with this crew too.

I KNOW the missus would agree!! Trust me on that one.......

Kinda late to the thread and my dilemma is a bit different but here goes. This will be the third Christmas with my girl friend. First year we agreed just to go somewhere out of town together. ***128077; Last year I bought her some pretty nice jewelry at a fund raiser for a friend. She bought me a ton of things I needed for around my house. This year however SHE decided that we shouldn't buy each other anything and maybe put the money toward a trip somewhere in 17. So I have asked numerous times if this is still the plan and she assures me that it is.

there's a bunch of smart fellas in here, so is this a trap?????

This is definitely a trap. One thing that you need to know right now is that women never forget... anything.

If you want to stay happy, you need to make sure that you buy her things, often. That means birthdays, ALL holidays, even the made up ones. You don't have to go big, just go from the heart. You will reap rewards beyond measure.

As mentioned in another post about the rat chewing the water hose into from the washing machine,,,the washer was not hooked up for 4 days. Finally got it fixed last night. This morning, wife started washing clothes but had to leave to meet our daughters for cookie cooking. While she was gone, I finished the wash , dryed the colthes and hung them up. She was so ecstatic I had done that... I thought she was going to cry. Yahoo,, brownie points for me..

After 25 plus years, christmas is mostly about family and friends, group breakfast at one house, visiting and then a great dinner at another. The circle of friends is small but its like a big family. Its something we look forward to every year.
Then 6 of us leave for cruise on new years day.

I was washing some rags on Saturday and our 7 year old GE front loader started making a horrible racket. I scheduled a service call for Tuesday, but last night started looking up possible causes online and doing some diagnostics. Sure enough, it's the tub bearings and repair costs approach the cost of a new washer. I cancelled the service call and started looking for a new one. After 3 new-fangled front loaders that have died in the past 18 years and lots of online horror stories about all the Consumer Reports top-rated washers, I didn't want to go that direction. (Does anyone need a Wi-Fi enabled washer???) It was time to go old school: Speed Queen top loader with mechanical dials. It's coming tomorrow and my wife is thrilled. I am NOT putting a bow on it or making any peep about it being a Christmas present.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that my 40 yr old Maytag hangs in there as long as I do. Plumber says keep it as long as possible, new ones are trash. Only thing is can't get some parts any more. Glad to hear there are some mechanical dial ones to be had.

Maybe, if it sends an alert to a handheld device when it's done. That way I don't forget the clothes for several hours or a day. Same goes for the dryer.

It does seem that the trend is now going away from front loaders. I did see one on TV that was a front loader and the pedestal was a small pull out top load for when you only want to wash a couple of items.

I was lucky and got a wife that is all about things outdoors, animals, etc... One year I bought her a pistol. This year I bought her some earring studs made from a .45 ACP shell with her birth stone, diamond. The gift from our 8 yr old son and myself is a new pair of mud boots. :D After 18 yrs of marriage and having a little one, we buy each other something small and one big thing that's for the both of us. The rest goes to our son and both sets of our parents.

bunker,,, you're a lucky dude!!! Was on the way to the Smokies for our anniversery about 5 years ago and stopped at a gun store. Just walking around looking and wife comes up to me and says, " I think I've found what I want for my anniversery gift. !!! Like I wasn't already takeing her somewhere for 3 days!!! She walks me over to a Ruger 10-22 rifle. She still has it and loves to ring the targets at 100 yds.
