I asked earlier about installing a piston on a connecting rod. I decided to cut to the chase and take it to a machine shop to have it done. When i got it back, instead of doing the heat and freeze install, he had machined the piston to a very precise slip fit. This is my first diesel effort so I would appreciate second opinions before I close this thing up. This machine shop is extremely well thought of in this area and he assured me that it was a perfect solution.
Thoughts?

Problem solved.

The only drawback is in the unlikely event that you ever need it out again you now have a non-standard part. Depending on how tight the pin tolerance is held the variation on pins pulled from a bag may or may not be within the new diameter.

It's done, I would not worry about it.

Thanks Jim. This is my first attempt at a diesel engine. Everything I have seen including the wsm says to use a pressed fit. I didn't know it was an either/or situation. Without some assurance, every time I started the engine, I would have been expecting shrapnel.

No hard core shrapnel, the cylinder walls will protect you! For sure want the pin clips installed correctly. Without them, and the pin starts to move, it will tap the cylinder wall. That's the audible you don't want to hear.
