Would you use this feature?

My wife pointed this out to me the other day. Google has added a notification to our phones.

By using a participating app, you can notify people around you anonymously that your infected. Or get word that someone near by is infected.

So, what do you think?

My thought on this. If you feel you need to let people know your infected, your not doing what your supposed to. You should be in quarantine unless getting drive through meds from the pharmacy, doctors office, or curbside pickup for groceries.

Anything else should be on the back burner till your symptom free and got a confirmed negative test back from the doctors.

My butt was at the house when I had the flu. The only exception was taking my wife to the doctors since she wasn't in any condition to drive herself.

If it helped and if it were retroactive for those few days when feeling fine and no symptoms.
I can see problems if you are in a "hot spot". Hundreds and hundreds of notifications and you may want to throw the phone in a lake. And then privacy concerns. Follow me about for 24/7, I do not care as I will be doing the same things as if you were not following me. To some I live a rather boring nonparanoid life.

I think it is just another purpose/reason to control what people do. The virus tracking makes it sound noble, and will get folks to jump on board.

After a few years of this kind of control over the population there will be no need for judges in court. All activities and actions will be tracked. Lies won't work. Alibi's won't work. You were there and they know it!!

Len, I was having similar thoughts on this sort of thing as well.

Think logically: By using tracing/tracking to ID more exposed people, a case can be made for mandatory vote by mail because those exposed may pose a risk to those not yet positive. It will seem to increase the exposure count and add urgency to avoiding voting in person.

It's just another Covid19 SCAM.. it allows Google to gather even MORE data about YOU and sell that info to others... EVERY AP ever offered does this, as well as grab a LOT of personal info. If you think I'm wrong, play the CBC Marketplace segment on how it's done......
'Smartphones' are 'smart'. They allow 1,000s to gather YOUR information 24/7. Another reason I will not own one.

I ordered a new battery charger from Wal-Mart online. The next day my wife had battery charger popups on her IPad. Her seeing what I Google happens quite often.

So why is it OK for private companies to track your location and sell you and your children's personal information 24/7 but somehow it's evil if the government does it?

At least if the government does it they pretend to have laws protecting your information and limit what they are allowed to do. Private companies have absolutely ZERO checks and balances in place.

By definition a computer virus or trojan is some code that is disguised as legitimate software and surreptitiously runs on a victims computer/devices. That code can self replicate, steal information, prevent un-installation, and serves no benefit to the end user.

Last I checked google/apple/facebook/... ram these trojans down our throats whether we want it or not. I disable the "google play" app on my android phone yet it constantly starts up and downloads "updates" in the background. My iPad magically slows down and becomes unusable every time a new update gets released because apple is ensuring we are getting the BEST user experience by preserving battery life. We can't shut these things off because we are locked out of our devices by design.
