Trying to restore badly rusted hood to make it look great again, and I have now lost good weather & temps to finish priming and painting hood.

Trying to decide weather to just spray a quick coat of primer in cold temp and hope the paint holds out til spring, or run without hood to clear snow this winter.

Having mixed feelings about running in wet conditions without hood. Trying to do a sanity check. Comments appreciated...

Thanks, Dan

I would do a quick spray of anything onto it and put it back on. Anytime I leave something like that laying around the shop for the winter I end up damaging it.

I'd have to rate storing it inside most important. You could probably get away with running it without a hood but I'd suggest an alternative I've done myself when in a bind. Bring the hood inside or a place where you can warm it up well. Take it outside to spray, quickly, should take only a minute of two. It'll be okay if spraycan and hood both are warm. Bring it back inside to cure for 24hrs. This isn't a good idea if you heat with open flame, at least if you have the hood in the area or if the wife's home. I've brought painted parts into the house to cure after the paint "flashes" for a couple minutes. If you have a gas furnace in the basement then leave it upstairs for a bit. After 15-20 minutes most paints aren't venting enough vapors to be a problem.
