Has anyone worked their tractor in blackberry vines ? I used a flail mower on a small excavator to chew up about 2 acres of blackberrys and now I want to use my L3800 and my rake to pull the debris together to burn. Wondering if the blackberry thorns will punch holes in my R 4's ? Anyone have any experience in this area ?

I have dome quite a bit of blackberry clearing with my L3200 / R4's, never had a issue.

I would worry more about any cut stumps from the vines that might puncture a tire unless the flail mower chopped them up right to the ground.

R4s are darn tough! I've bush-hog'd HUGE wild roses with R1s and never had a problem. R4s are tougher; I think you'll be fine.

Same here.

Never had problem with blackberry vines using R-4 tires.

Bigger problem in my area is that blackberries love rocks and rough country. We put loader down as safety sweep and put brushhog down as far as will go and ease through the patch.

Some of our blackberry stalk stumps are probably as big as your thumb but never a problem.

Biggest problem is shattered sapling stumps that will punch out a tire fast because when cut short they won't bend over. Cut high repeatedly until tree regrowth loses interest and / or apply herbicide sprayed to cut stumps.

The only way to get rid of blackberries is herbicide. Use a herbicide labeled for use in your area for blackberries.

Or let 'em grow, pick 'em, cut or spray 'em after you pick 'em: nothing better than blackberry preserves home canned.

Let us know how you proceed so we may all learn. Samples of preserves appreciated by all. When should we drop by come July?

Thorns won't hurt the tires, if you have a loader bucket, you might be able to skim a little and get a big wad moving, use that as a pre-rake and speed pushing it into a pile.

Usually I'll just use the loader bucket edge to tear out scrub and pile it up. a few mowings will eliminate the bushes once the grass takes over, mow once a year.

Hell I cut down tons of black berry canes with an old Boland tractor, and the Butoa with the MMM chops them up really well never a problem with a tire or MMM
