Will this idea ruin the coil?

I am working on an old JD 110 to see if I can get it running and managed to strip a coil lead thread trying to force fit an ill fitting condenser lead. I was thinking i would add a little silver solder to the stem and rethread it. Will the heat bugger the coil? Better idea? (It's a brand new coil so I would like to salvage it).

You would be better off to solder a lead on it and connect that, as solder isn't very good at holding threads.
Or drop down one size of a die to re- thread it.
Or try a metric nut.

Might be able to run a die down the damaged thread, or use two nuts to increase the bite.

Is a Heli-Coil an option? I've always had good luck with them if access is good.

hmm, so an ignition coil... 2 studs, usually 10-32 thread.
If the 'post' is just stripped, carefully use a new nuts as a 'die' and 'chase' the threads on the stud.
If it's really mangled, clean the post real good and 'tin' it. Then use a 'threaded post' and solder it onto the post. Electronic places like DigiKey have them....based on thread size and length.
This would be the closest to 'looks OEM'
The bodge is to just solder a wire onto the post, and rewire as needed.

The stem is stripped enough it won't tighten the existing nut but the smaller nut, double nut, metric nut all seem like good possibilities. Also sounds like a little solder won't bugger the coil which was my initial concern. Lots of good input , thanks all.

Otherwise I have used a JB weld type epoxy that was electrically conductive If I remember it was made by Kent and was used by GM to glue the rear window defroster tabs back onto the glass. Can't find the stuff I used, but, this looks close to it.

That's good to know, thanks. I did find a slightly smaller nut that seemed to tighten up ok, but if it gives up...
