re: So I was wrong on the third world country.

depends on what part of Illonoise he's in !!!
Gotta give him A for effort and I hope he wins.
I respect him more than a guy that just signs cheques and says 'look at the car I restored'.

I can see myself using some of his techniques & practices to build a tractor engine after the total collapse of civilization.
Nor sure why I would need a tractor after the total collapse of civilization......

He is using 3rd world repair techniques.
Perhaps he lives in a 3rd world country?

"Perhaps he lives in a third world country?"

I believe we all do.
Is that what happened? It just felt like California expanded their borders to include everything between Mexico and Canada.

As for joesmith"s engine, imo the whole thing was a ruse from start to finish, aka "throwing a tarp over it".

Some might make a measurement with a micrometer. If they didn't have a micrometer, might use a caliper. If they didn't have a caliper they might use a steel ruler. If not that, maybe a tape measure. Have you ever used a piece of wire or even a stick to get a measurement?

Everyone is different. If joesmith used a different method then you it's Ok.

I voted YES, partly because I wish him success. There were times when I went against advice I was given. Sometimes I made out just fine and others I paid a price. Both outcomes were valuable learning experiences.

How in the hell did I miss this thread?

Here we are in year two, over a thousand posts, second build in the offing, a tractor that “runs” (tires optional) and either this forums greatest troll or most dedicated fix it guy.

Happy damn New Years to all the OTT folks!
