In regards to purchases, I have a list. As I need items I add them to my list, as I buy items they are removed from the list. This way I get what I need. Depending on the item, it could be on my list for hours, days or weeks. As far as buying a bunch of stuff you did not plan on, that is just a matter of self control.

For the glove issue, that is a matter of having the true desire to be organized. We all say we want to be organized, but only the people that are willing to put in the time and effort, will be.

For 11 years I had a 44' twin diesel trawler motor yacht.
Though I did most maintenance myself, occasionally I would need to hire a mechanic.
Invariably, a bolt or socket would fall into the bilge,....never to be found.
One mechanic I hired had a solution.
He said: I bring a small handful of bolts & nuts, and throw them in the bilge before I start.
"That appeases the bilge gods!"

Love the "appease the gods" trick. I work in hospitals and we never say the "Q" word when there are less bust moments. The Q word is the opposite of loud or busy. I won't even mention it here, lol.
