Why is your vet bill so expensive?

Very interesting, thanks for posting that. Doubtful anything could be done about it at this point, but certainly informative.

We just took my Daughter's 2 dogs in yesterday, one a 15.5 yr old Dachshund the other a 10 month old Pyrenees and Corgi mix (yeah I know, how does happen).

Left with a bottle of anitboitics, nothing nneeded for the 10 month old pup.

Bill was just shy of $200.00, pretty reasonable visit (small town Deep East Texas). Daughter remarked that the same visit would have been well North of $500.00 in California where she lives.

We have an 85yr old woman across the street that we help out/watch over whose dog died night before last.
She was lost as to what to do, so we took her & her baby to our vet for cremation. (she wanted his ashes)
$300. o_O
I can remember when I thought $60 was high for that service.

Vet bills are pretty outrageous. We no longer take our pets in for "well visits" or yearly shots. We get their yearly shots at the road side clinics which operate every week around here. We also do not get their heartworm and flea and tick meds from the vet. We order that online with no prescription needed from a vet. When our dog or cat gets sick or injured, then we'll take them to the vet.

The haves vs the have nots. Billionaire greed! Out of control and bound to get worse.

I have been using Revolution Plus for my outdoor cat. It requires a prescription in the US. It's over the counter in other countries. When I stopped buying it from my vet it was north of $26 per dose. I started buying it out of Australia for about $10 per dose. The end of the minimum tariff rule just drove it up over $30 per dose no matter where you buy it.

It's in every aspect of our lives. You can't even access popular areas of the beach due to high rise condos and hotels.

You pretty much have to be at least upper middle class to afford going to a theme park. That needle will continue to move upwards.

How and Where can you get those meds without a vet Rx…??

Most pet meds that require a Rx in the US are over the counter in other countries. Like I said in my post, I was buying my Flea, tick, & heartworm meds from Australia for a fraction of the US cost. When I got the first pack and saw it was made in Australia I emailed the factory both state side and the contact on the package from over there. The US email reply claimed they didn't know if it was the same formula trying to scare me from buying foreign and the Aussie contact assured me it was the same formula and they just didn't have to have a prescription for it over there.

Now that every little nickel and dime purchase from other countries have to go through customs and have a large tariff applied to it all those deals will go away.

We live fully under billionaire control in the USA now.

billionaire control
They wouldn't be billionaires if they didn't control GOVERNMENT.
They make the rules and they print the currency.
THEY don't need currency, We do.
We are under GOVERNMENT control.
Government IS the problem, it is what gives them power, backed by a gun.
How did a country with more guns than people be taken over by so few so easily?

We've also been under control of the rich for a lot longer than just "now"

I use www.petshed.com, but there are other Australian online pet pharmacies, too. I've been ordering from petshed for nearly 20 years. Haven't tried any of the others.
Is this an aussie company? It doesn't show any details on their web site. If so it'll be interesting to see if future shipments get hung up in customs.

They are an Aussie company, but their main distribution hub is in Singapore. It (the distribution hub) used to be in the UK.
The first place I ordered from shipped from China but came in aussie packaging. I switched to https://www.petcareclub.com/ and they shipped direct from Australia. PetCareClub prices has more than doubled recently and I read somewhere the postal service in Australia would no longer ship to the US. I guess it's all a crap shoot until I attempt to order again which I need to do.

I will probably look for a US over the counter product to switch to. I saw something at the country fertilizer store the other day I need to research.

One thing that most people are unaware of is how billing has been simplified and expanded with the use of computers. In the past, you were billed for the veterinarian's charge and a small bill for the supplies used. An example would be if your dog received a rabies vaccine, and you were charged only for the serum. Now you are billed for the serum, the syringe, syringe disposal, alcohol wipes, and the list goes on. Everything is listed on the internal invoice, but the client only sees a single line item without any itemization.
