Having grown up on a farm, fence disputes between neighbors are common, particularly when livestock are involved.
There's an (unwritten?) rule that each property owner along a shared fenceline is responsible for the right-hand half of the fenceline as he stands and looks out from his property. I don't know if there is a legal precedent for this, but it works, kind of. Of course, no two farmers' fence-building standards are the same. But look, if my cows get into your corn through your half of the fenceline, it's not on me!
