This is a fun time of year as the whitetail population becomes more active.
This buck does not seem to care that the oak tree he seems to be licking (licking branch) and scrapping with his front hoof has a trail cam plainly exposed.

Gotta like it, no deer have no problem with them however beers are a different story, they can put a pounding on them

I do have a small population of bears on the place. Mostly active spring to early summer. Knock on wood none of my cams have fallen victim YET. :) I host a WI DNR camera (Snapshot WI program, interesting in its own right) and they offer a bear proof (sure! lol) kit if requested.

We haven't so lucky but some were repairable and most who I've hunted with over the last few years including myself have have gone in to find our blinds destroyed, only money right.:censored:

That's a beauty.

Maybe 2 1/2 year old? Head/face/body doesn't look quite 3 1/2...

Betting 20" or so spread. Tines are great.

Would be a great deer around these parts.

Saw a picture of a friend's wife's buck-mount 24" spread and 205# dressed - - beautiful buck, but exceptional.

i would think your spot on. Not too many bucks around my land make it to 3 1/2 years with the long archery season, special hunts, local hunting pressure etc. My first buck off my property in the fall of 2019 might have been 3 1/2 or perhaps even 4 1/2 years old. A 12pt with drop tine.

Our bow season now runs 10/1 to 12/21(?). Of course, there's gun, crossbow, and muzzleloader mixed in there too.

State also added a Holiday Hunt for 12/26-1/1 for an extended bow and muzzleloader.

As a kid, the normal buck taken was 18 months, small 6-point, and 110lbs dressed. (The stories made them 165lbs....) We hunted to put meat in the freezer. Antlers, points, didn't matter.

We lived 30 minutes from Syracuse, NY, and had a lot of State Land nearby. Drew a lot of and them and hunters from NYC and NJ.

Hunting pressure has fallen greatly. I don't hunt anymore, but love venison.

Where I live now is more rural, has more State Land. I see very few hunters anymore, but do see some VERY respectable bucks being taken. I think more are in tune to quality management of the herd.

That said, I'll take those 110 pound bucks over an 160 pounder at 3.5 years of age any day....those young ones taste so good.......

I agree, nice for the area, I'm the next county over from you. Haven't seen any rubs yet in back of the house.
Wife and I have a contest spotting rubs and making them with a sharpie. She usually wins as I can walk by one she can spot from a long ways off

What game cam? Looking to upgrade mine.
This camera is a Browning defender 850 wireless. Not a cellular but has WIFI. I thought it would be neat to download pictures on my iPad without touching the camera. Problem is the download speed is really slow compared to pulling the card and using a card reader with my iPad. The other issue is that it uses the CR123 batteries which are more expensive than AA's. I do however like the quality of the video and stills this camera takes.

Cortland County? I ask because both wife and I were born and raised there.

Yes cortland county, Cincy to be exact. We went out back with the pups about 4 pm and bam, she found her first rub! Got her initials on it.

That's cool; I was a Truxton farm boy, wife from City of Cortland.

I spent a few winters cutting spruce pulp in Tayler Valley..

Had a couple libations at Cincy Hotel and Bennett Hotel many years ago. Sad when Cincy Hotel burned.

We've got a few saplings 75 feet from our back door....bucks (usually little) tear them apart every fall....

This was one of my first for this fall, Sept 21. They seem to prefer my aspen trees , small and large.
