White smoke (or ANY smoke) from the breather pipe is ALWAYS an expensive repair. Either valves and guides (rarely) or pistons cylinders or head gasket. An engine can run a long time with excessive crankcase vapors though, as long as it isn't to hard to start! Was it smoking before...even a little?
Next would be to pull the valve cover and look to see if smoke is coming from the head side(valve stems & seals) or the bottom end (rings).
