i have just over 4 acres of stumps/roots to clean up. along with changing a driveway. so i need something durable to rip ground and packed gravel..

http://www.landpride.com/products/57/bb05-series-box-scrapers

box scraper looks handy as it could be used for more than earth breaking. i'm looking for something without the box.. like the first item. i like the idea of the garden soil attachments.

thanks for the suggestions/comments.

Not sure about stumps and roots, but a box blade is one of the must useful implements one can have for a tractor. I use mine almost as much as the mower.

A heavy duty box blade with scarifiers will work great for ripping up the drive and rebuilding it. But, if you hang it on a big rock or stump you won't have to worry about the BB being square or straight anymore. IMHO, a medium size backhoe or small excavator is perfect for stump removal.

Rent a stump grinder and get the right tool for the job the first time. Backhoe's and excavators work great on small stumps. Around 18 inches smaller or so will be fine. Anything over that a grinder works great and is fast.

What are you pulling this with?
The BB0.. series is pretty light duty stuff. 3/16 side walls... A BB12 or 15 is heavier duty. A good rear blade will have a 3/8" moldboard, as opposed to 3/16" on the box scrapers. You can use them for driveways, ditching, etc.
The stump grinder is a good idea. Unless your tractor is huge I don't think a rear blade will help pull out a tree stump, no better than a good piece of chain or cable.

Stumps are a thousand times stronger than you think they are. I've had an L235 and a f250 diesel 4wd chained to a 6 inch mamosa stump and could not pull it up. A friend has a' 70 something ford 4wd with big mudder tires and he was bragging about all the tree stumps he had pulled up. I had a sweet gum , about 10 inches, that I had dug around and cut several of the roots off. I invited him to show me what his bad boy truck would do. 2 broken chains and a ripped off bumper later, he wasn't bragging any more. You can pay the stump man cheaper than you can rent the machine.
