I'm in the market for a jack and jack stands. Will use them on my BX1870, but also want them to work with the various automobiles that make it to my garage. Right now that's just import passenger cars--no truck at the moment, but some day....
To date I've only used my vehicle's included jacks when needing to change a tire, and have been able to slide myself underneath with all four tires on the garage floor when doing anything else. But the vehicles must be getting lower, 'cause I don't fit as well as I used to.
What do you guys recommend? I'm eyeing some 3 ton jack stands that Northern has on sale for $23 with free shipping, which sounds like a good deal. I guess one feature is that whatever I get should fit under the BX front axle when using the FEL to get the wheels off the ground. I haven't measured that clearance yet.
And what about a jack to get a vehicle up onto the stands? Is a bottle jack appropriate for this, and what size?
First job will be replacing the BX tie rod boots using Toneloc's kit.
Thanks for any advice!
