Which Deflector for BX2822A 55" Commercial Snow Blower?

Hello.

New to the tractor world and I'm buying a B2601 with a 55" Commercial Snow Blower.

To add the hydraulic chute deflector it is $1079. In addition to that, the dealer told me that I need to add the third function to the front hydraulics for about $1200.

Total cost to deflect snow hydraulically is $2,270 versus $550 for the electrically.

Seems CRAZY expensive to do.

Anybody have experience with this and can comment.

Dealers seem confused, one said I need the third function and other said I do not.

I bought an electric actuator piston off eBay for ~$40, mounted it to the chute for the deflector. Added a switch in the cab. Rotation was a bit harder. I tried a power window motor, but it kept freezing up. I'm currently using a robotics motor and gearbox. Had to fabricate my own bracket and adapter, of course. Some guys are using winch motors.

$550 for the complete electric option is probably not too bad if you can't or don't want to roll your own.

I've got hydro left/right, electric up/down deflector on mine, all factory/dealer installed. Used this season in New England performed flawlessly. Unless your running a commercial outfit I don't see why you would want to spend the money on a hydro deflector.

You'll need 3rd function if you get a grapple, at that time maybe you'd consider swapping the deflector over to hydro.

No third function here, yet, its the one option I forgot to check, it's coming.

I added a 'linear actuator' to raise/lower the chute to my 40" BERCO rider/blower 5-6 years ago. I measured the 'stroke' needed to be a bit over 4". So I bought a HydroWorks 4" , 12VDC linear actuator, used 1/4-20 bolts_ locking nuts to mount it. yeah, OK it was a quickand tad sloppy install BUT it worked ! Usd a 'motor reversing DPDTMO' switch. Every summer I say 'I have to 'finish' the project... every Winter I say the same thing, BUT it keeps working.. Total cash was less than $80 Canucks and maybe 2 hours labour.
I understand,kinda, why dealers charge large for some things...but $550 left alone $2200+, is a ripoff

I have the 48 inch commercial on a Bx2680 with hydraulic turn and Kubotas electric spout. I find that the spout works well and is fairly quick. It moves up or down under load no problem. This is one of the reasons I went Orange instead of Green when I bought. I have since added a green blower with the aftermarket spout control added. Not the same. Should have went to Kubota and bought their spout kit. And the green ones do not turn the spout to blow over your shoulder only 90 degree either way.

The tractor is a bit of overkill for my 1.6 acres, but I'm sick of lifting and fighting my snow blower.

I don't think I'd use a grapple.... My lot of cleared and all lawn.

Makes sense to go electric for a $1500 savings.

Still confused that the dealers differ on how it is setup.

Thank you....$2200 seems crazy to actuate a snowblower deflector. Just crazy.

I never move my chute deflector so it's a non-issue for me. I want my snow to go as far away as possible.

If you are doing commercial work in town then I imagine an adjustable setup might be more desirable.

Electric actuators are on sale now at princess auto so you can pick up and 8" stroke system for under $100. I'd buy a new snowblower for $2200.

heck for 2200, you can buy my Craftsman/Berco riderblower...remove the linearactuaor ,put on your rig, throw away the still useable /resaleable rider/blower and you're STILL ahead of the game,moneywise....

I never move my chute deflector so it's a non-issue for me.

Same here - - this winter I moved mine for the 2nd time in 8 seasons.

The first time was when I assembled the snowblower.

True, some do need more control/adjustability. I don't take power deflection adjustment as a necessity for my use.

I installed a electric actuator for the deflector on my first kubota worked great no problems with it after 8 yrs of use . Bought a new bx1880 with 48” HD blower with hyd chute and installed another electric actuator on it. Dealer installed hyd deflector would have been $800 , cost me about. $100 to install mine

I now have two formal quotes now with the commercial 55" Snowblower HYDRAULIC deflector. One dealer is $1080 and the other is $2,300.

It can be done with either a diverter valve, or a true third function. The diverter valve way you have to select electrically which function you wish to use. The true third function gives you the ability to use rotation and deflection hydraulically without having to switch back and fourth electrically . Hopefully I explained it correctly.

I already had the third function so I chose to make my own hydraulic deflection kit to have hydraulic chute deflection for about $400.00-500.00. But if I remember correctly the third function from the dealer was around $1200.00. So any hydraulic solution will cost more than an electrical chute deflection. Just the nature of the beast. Although I think overall the hydraulic choice will outlast any electrical one just based on connection and motor failure from cold and moisture.

Thank you. Would you think the snow blower $1,079 deflector comes with the valve up front on the blower that is doing the diverter from the left to right action to the up and down action? If that is the case then there is an electrical cable run to some button that is placed on the bucket control near the driver.

That would be the way it works with the diverter valve. However, the third function also uses an electrical switch to activate the solenoid valve to control the direction of the hydraulic fluid on the hydraulic cylinder that would move the deflector. That set of switches is also on the joystick for the FEL.

..... The confusion deepens.... My brain is just a little confused on this . I'd love to see some schematic diagram or some pictures of installations to help my brain sort it out. I appreciate you trying to help. Thank you.
