I've recently taken a shine to neck gaiters. That area between the hat/facemask & coverall was always a trouble spot. Could never get scarves to stay put, plus they are bulky. Since I've discovered these gaiter thingy's, I find they complement the rest of my attire quite nicely. I'm also partial to anything made of Merino wool (thin) as base layers, then Polartec, then a waterproof windproof outer layer. Mind you, this is for "clean" winter outdoor activity (think hiking). For dirty work, I'll pull on the Carhartts.

I live in TN. If we actually get snow, I usually wear shorts and a t-shirt to shovel it.
I usually wear my Black shorts and black t-shirt year around. In fact I have about 15 matching sets so that I never have problems getting dressed. When it gets real cold, I might put on my black vest and black socks with my sandals.

dalola reminded me of the last time I was really cold.

A 4-day shotgun class in January in the high desert west of Vegas posed issues for this thin-blooded guy. My daughter, going with us, made up flexible-stretchie black "neck tubes" about a foot long that we pulled over our heads, down to our neck. They were doubled material and man, THEY WORKED AWESOME!!! You could wear it like a turtleneck to keep you neck warm or pull it up on your chin or higher, if need be. When you got warm enough, you could quickly pull it off your head and stick it in your pocket until the next break.

I took mine back again for the next 4-day class, also in January. Nothing sucks worse than being cold 30 minutes before sunrise knowing you were going to be out in the weather until noon. Thankfully, that trip was much warmer. By 9:30 we were in shirtsleeves.

These also work great between coats and motorcycle helmets.
