What is it with new members that refuse to take the advice that is offered them? A great number of them seem ready to fight and belittle those who are putting a genuine effort into helping them solve a complex problem. Last week a new member managed to get banned for insulting another member of the forums. Today I have read more than one post with people with the same poor attitude. Is it that they are frustrated or is it that is their general nature to be belligerent?

Welp, lack of experience…in life and with tractors, holier than thou edumacation from elite universities, lack of etiquette, an internet ethos of being rude and condescending if someone doesn’t immediately bend the knee to their obviously superior knowledge and approach and people not agreeing with their preconceived answers…leads to what you are describing OP. This is one of a few websites that people are typically helpful, polite and interact in a manner that is sorta like you are talking face to face.

WOW…I feel better for that rant already! Thanks OP…you made my day👍

With political tensions turned to 11 in the past few weeks, I suspect some of that tension spilled over into other parts of life. Hopefully we can get back to our regularly-scheduled program around here now.

Typically there are 2 types of people that newly pop in here ...........

those that have no freakin idea what the hell is going on and want someone to help them and will listen to them........

AND those that have ALREADY made their minds up and WANT reinforcement to that idea, and when someone bucks that idea - the gloves come off.

Typical topic - synthetic oils, is it hype or real? The old myth is .............

However - there are those the WILL acknowledge the help once provided and .......... they too will disappear from the forum.

IF your mind is made up - cool, but when someone really proves that thought as old school or incorrect then move forward and try not to be an ass about it.

Yes you really can place straight 30 weight in a new tractor ............ if you want to!!!! IT is all about what you feel is right - or right, right now.

I agree. There is some responses that active and older veteran members could answer more politely but for the most part your are asking questions/advice on a public forum. You are getting advice for free from everyone with a different idea I think that’s great to be honest I’m a younger guy but when I have coffee with my dad he says” I wish we had forums when we were young to help us out. We had to figure things out hard way. “ As pathetic as it may seem I look forward to scroll through this everyday. Lots of times I can’t add much but I always learn something or have a laugh. Thank you to all that have ever commented or helped me out 👍

I believe what you are all identifying in some of the posters is called ‘mild (to severe) cognitive impairment’.

I was an active member on a Jeep Cherokee forum for many years, and finally just stopped cold turkey, for this very reason. I just got tired of snot-nosed kids who wouldn't know a coulomb from a cucumber, telling me I don't understand how electricity works. I have a piece of sheepskin and a successful 40 year career that says I do.

I didn't mind that one of the old timers on the forum kept arguing with me about dielectric grease. He'd at least been around the track a few times, and he knew the electrical system of the Cherokees inside and out. He had earned his keep. He was just blind on this one point. I just sparred with him and put up with it.

But getting argued with and bad-mouthed by know-nothing kids that can hardly form a coherent sentence finally got to be too much.

Well, although what has been said is true, there are an unfortunate number of older and long term members that are argumentative and unpleasant for no reason. I have been here for 3+ years, and it seems that these members display their baseless anger towards other members every few months. I am not talking about being crusty; I am referring to members personally attacking other members - in one case stating that they were eagerly awaiting another members' death.

The older EA threads contained a lot of vitriol from older members.

The anonymity of sitting behind a keyboard with a UserName instead of Genuine I.D. allows, and even authorizes disrespectful discourse. It has crept into our public servants and now seen as “legitimate” comversation.
Instead of becoming More tolerant we’re becoming less so. The ones who wear their religion on their sleeves are some of the worst violators of the creed to which they claim adherence.

I am now looking at my own behavior and comments before hitting that <enter> key as I try to help others with what little knowledge I have.

Kind regards, and Thank You to Wolfman and so many others here who have helped me

Let’s not drag education levels into this. There are plenty of people who are both well educated and poorly educated who have no public relations skills, and some who are just *sswholes. And I will add that this applies to both young and old people on this forum.

In real life, it seems to me that people who think they are smart are less likely to take advice.
On the interwebs, some people just want a definite answer. They don't understand why folks can't diagnose something from thousands of miles away.

As others have pointed out, it's NOT just this forum.
Have 2,sigh, 'know-it-all' neighbours...

1st one has spent 3 YEARS working on an 80' retaining wall, that's at most 3' tall(tapered grade..), still not done of course, though 'concrete coming next week'..Adjacent neighbours are 'fed up' as without the wall(more of a footing...) they can't build a fence to block the view of THEIR backyard.... HE has to BUILD the forms, offsite, measure everything, etc.The footing got poured 3 1/2 MONTHS ago, and if given the 'OK' I could have formed up the wall in 2 days(seems I get down easy, getting up is harder these dayze...). hmm, supposed to be poured on Momday,, we'll see...

2nd one was commissioned to build a front porch,5 MONTHS ago. Old porch was removed by subcon 1st week in July, giving full, easy access. Spotty progress, questionable construction, NOT up to code,NO blocking to support custom($$$$) railing and obviously NOT done. hmm, get a text, supposed to be installed Monday, we'll see.

On the flip side, other neighbours are super happy I bought the BX23S and help them out AND open to my most of my suggestions. I know the farmer is real happy as I cleared another 1/4 acre of land for him this week.

Geo, you often make a comment about people's religion in your threads when no one else has said anything about it. I remember some time back you made a similar comment about, and stated anyone who thinks they are a Christian and believes in the Old Testament isn't one. Remember that? I stated you hadn't read the book of Revelation then.

If you have a burr under your saddle about religion leave it alone in your post and no one will notice and your thread will more acceptable! ;)
