One of the concerns of the founding fathers was that we have government by the people and not by aristocracy. While we don’t have an aristocracy by heredity we have our own brand of aristocracy by political party. The politicians have different laws and benefits, and selectively choose to ignore the laws the rest of us must live by. They work for the big money paid by the special interests and not the ones who pay taxes, fight their wars, and vote. We like to feel we are doing our part by voting to hold them accountable, but we really have no meaningful choices (House of Tudor: White or Red aristocrats – Democrat or Republican aristocrats).
The political aristocrats may argue, fight, and stonewall on what’s best for the country, but they always manage to do what’s best for the political aristocracy.
