Oh my....looks like they had great luck.

That looks awesome fried! (y)

We have some Channel Cats in places up here. Nothing approaching that size, but good eating.

Something I should re-visit upon retirement.

I grew up on bullhead fishing. Pan-fried in flour and butter is how mom did it.

My father always told me to get bullhead when the apple trees blossomed.

Being pretty small at 10-20", took a bucket to make a meal for the family. If I didn't catch enough to make a meal, I'd throw them all back and try again another day... ;)

Crab feed, Alaska Style:

Expecting 13, only had 10. 6lbs of King Crab left for next time. :D

Had to move the traeger over to block the wind. Temps went from 30f down to 21f in about an hour after the sun set. Then winds shifted and I had to crank the burner to max and still could only get 208f to 210f water temps. Enough for our needs but the burner is going to be retired. It's 6yrs old and highly corroded, so not operating at peak efficiency. Did the job though. ;)

Wow, you had the full meal deal. We occasionally do that with Crawfish or Shrimp when we don't have Crawfish. ;)

Good morning.

I don’t usually follow this thread but, I wanted to let you know that Dr Suess was wrong…it should have been Green Eggs and DEER Bacon. 😂

So two things…1. We have a chicken that lays green eggs. And 2. My buddy that makes deer sausage for me, held some of the grind meat back to make a meat block (then smoked to make ‘bacon’)…and try out out his new slicer…the recipe he followed is below. It was pretty good. ☕

Fried chicken in a while with spaghetti squash and roasted little potatoes with garlic.

Seasoned legs and thighs been soaking in buttermilk since Friday afternoon.

Single breaded in seasoned flour before everybody jumps in the 325 degree pool…..

Best done outside for me. 50 degrees here today. Can fry in shorts and a tee shirt….😳

There’s some chili powder on the chicken pieces. Makes them look very dark, but all good.

Ours is about the same color but a lot more sugar! (We’ve been finishing sap down to syrup 😆)
Nice! I used to do about 30 taps in my yard. Now a neighbor does about 140 taps in our woods.

Hopefully you get some labor free syrup out of that?!

We just have 20 taps for now (1 Sugar maple, rest are black walnuts). It’s same process with the BWs as Maples… We are learning on a micro scale in the near term. We plan to take it up a notch in a few years. Our other place up North is loaded with sugar maples. 😉

I don’t ask for it, but they pay $1/tap each year.

If we had a lease I would be eligible for an agricultural exemption for my property taxes.

I prefer not to get too cozy with government programs. The $140 is a small offset of my property tax.

This is too serious to be a joke. ;)

Yup, the pistol is there but my eyes went to the Bacon.

Bacon.JPG

Here is the serving of bacon that came with my breakfast at Tony's in Birch Run, MI.

Check out the menus and some of the videos in the Tonys link above. Imagine a BLT with a full pound of bacon.
