What type of motor oil?

I'm not sure what it is about oil/lubricants that gets people so riled up and opinionated? And it's not just here, but on every forum I've ever been on... cars, trucks, motorcycles, firearms etc. Go figure....

The manual for my L3800 says specifically to not use the C J-4 oil. Because it is for engines with the
Diseal Particulate feature.
All this emission stuff was way after the B1550 was introcuced. Maybe I should stay away from C J-4 oil for the B1550 also. But all the oil jugs I have read all had the C J -4 spec.
Except for the Rotella straight 30 conventional oil.

Yet, someone else reported that all the Kubota oils are CJ-4.

According to the BX2380 Kubota Operator's Manual (page 73) CJ=4 engine oil "cannot be used on this tractor." Kubota engine oil has a CJ-4 rating along with others. Should Kubota engine oil not be used on the BX2380?!?!?!

I'm thinking the statement in the manual means that you shouldn't use an engine oil with only a CJ-4 rating.

I talked with the dealership's service manager about this. I changed my oil last night and used Kubota 15w-40.

Try not to over think things. You'll live longer and be happier for it.

I find the Canola oil idea interesting. It made me wonder about using olive oil and a stick of butter.

Castor Oil was one of the earliest internal combustion engine oils.

My Kubota Manual indicates the CJ4 classification is intended for EGR equipped engines.

But it’s superfluous now as CJ4 has passed and CK4 and later spec is current.

Some choose to ignore the reductions and alternate additives thinking that they are still using the same product as before. It is not about opinion, but it should be about recognizing facts and making an intelligent choice based on facts. I frequent another forum where it seems that the majority are comfortable with their heads implanted in a dark place.

It’s human nature. When a person spends his/her money on something they are loathe to criticize their own choices and wish to reaffirm themselves by promoting their choice upon others.
It’s difficult to say privately OR publicly “I was a fool and spent money on an alternative and ignored the recommendations of the mfr’r.… I sure hope it doesn’t bite me.” Instead, when an inquirer asks a question out of ignorance and concern…. responders often do not offer the mfr’s well-researched and engineered recommendation…. they instead respond “Well, I used Such-and-Such.”…. as if THAT automatically qualified as a good answer despite the choice being one of unsupported opinion.

Go read the 2009 API description of CJ-4 that I posted above. It makes it perfectly clear that used in conjunction with ULSD diesel fuel CJ-4 was suitable for use were ALL previous standards had been specified. That includes engines with and without DPF and EGR after treatment.

The BX2380 was introduced in the same year the CK-4 standard became current. At that point CJ-4 and ULSD diesel had been the current standard for over a decade.

Given that what service class does the manual tell you to use?

That being said CK-4 is the latest spec and has been for several years. It is backwards compatible and you probably have a difficult time finding a CJ4 only spec oil.

Easy Peasy, get a name brand oil and you will be good to go. Any synthetic oil rated to work in todays engines will work in older engines.

Just beware of one thing, if the older engine has cork or paper gaskets, and has never had synthetic run through it, you may experience some oil weepage from valve and oil pan gaskets as the synthetic flows much better and can find those tiny cracks that non syn oil can't get through. Won't hurt the engine in any way, but you might see some leaks, just depends on how old the engine actually is. Eventually the cork will expand and seal though. I doubt it will be an issue with the OP's engine, more so for cars and trucks built before the early 90's.

I wonder what it was that caused the design engineers of the ecoboost to create an engine that FAils to deliver full performance on the oils they ACTUALLY RECOMMEND for that engine? (they do not even mention “Royal Purple”. (I guess it’s an internal secret that they don’t want owners to get max performance from their baby.)

I put Double doors in for just that purpose!

I guess I should mention that it was while under construction, we used it to lift and set the trusses.
