Time to change the oil in my B1550. 800 hrs
I have been using Rotella 15-40 conventionl oil.
I am thinking about going to a full synthetic to extend oil change intervals.
The manual sys to use CC or CD labeled oil.
What do yall think?
Thanks

CC and CD are long obsolete. The current service specification is CK-4. If you like synthetic its fine as long as it is a HD diesel engine oil.

I'm about to do my 50 hour service on my BX23S, so first oil change. I'm planning on using Shell Rotella T6 Full Synthetic.

The manual for my L3800 says specifically to not use the C J-4 oil. Because it is for engines with the
Diseal Particulate feature.
All this emission stuff was way after the B1550 was introcuced. Maybe I should stay away from C J-4 oil for the B1550 also. But all the oil jugs I have read all had the C J -4 spec.
Except for the Rotella straight 30 conventional oil.

API CJ-4 oil is fine for your older B1550 diesel. It' not meant to be used for engines with DPF.

I did some reading on this a few weeks ago. I wish I remembered specifics, but what i recall was that the early cj4 oils hadn't been fully worked out when they were first put on the market. And that newer oils, like ck4, which are compliant with cj4, are ok.

Perhaps someone can comment more on this

New oils arw typically backwards compatible with the older oils. Also typically more refined and or something added or removed. It's perfectly safe to run the ck-4 spec oil in your diesel. A lot of these changes were to help with ash build up to save dpf systems. Guess when you really think about it the ash wasn't nessisarily a good thing, but not enough of an issue at the time to worry about. Now the new oils have to work with complicated exhaust systems that will not tolerate it.

In about 7 hours, I'll be changing out the breakin oil for M1 0w30 ESP, which is Euro rated C3. Had it in the JD 2025R when I traded it in and plan to change the Isuzu's oil to it (from its 5w30 Castrol VW504 rated oil) this year.

I wonder if everyone that post in these oil threads cares enough about what goes in their body as they do some damn dead dinosaurs? I’d bet not.

When you think about it…..If they really cared about what went into their tractors they’d use only Kubota Oil.
Use whatever brand of diesel-rated latest standard motor oil you want in the Kubota recommended viscosity. Doh.

I for one do. Stopped eating sugar. Rarely eat processed foods. I switched to non-alcholic beer and rarely drink hard alcohol. Started an exercise regimen.

Your choice what you use but I wouldn't extend the time between changes. Again your decision.

I have no idea why they would make such a recommendation and it is certainly not relevant today.. This is the original 2009 API statement of CJ-4 suitability for use.

CJ-4 oils are compounded for use in all applications with diesel fuels ranging in sulfur content up to 500 PPM (.005% by weight).

The ONLY issue with CJ-4 was with engines that had after treatment systems AND the fuel had more then 15 ppm sulfur content. Todays fuel is all ULSD (<15 PPM sulfur) and CJ-4 poses no problem for any engine including those with particulate and catalyst after treatment systems.

CK-4 was introduced in December 2016 and replaced CJ-4. You are not likely to find any CJ-4 oils on the shelf today.

I have been using Rotella 15-40 conventionl oil.
I am thinking about going to a full synthetic to extend oil change intervals.
The manual sys to use CC or CD labeled oil.
What do yall think?
Thanks
Whatever oil meets or exceeds required specs of your tractor and you decide to use is the "right one'

The difference between CJ-4 and CK-4 motor oil is that CK is tweaked to be kinder to emissions equipment…

I still have a little CJ-4 oil, and am careful not to put it in a tractor with a diesel particulate filter, DPF…

I suggest Shell Rotella T6, in 5W-40. Tough oil, easy to find…
