Well we have a freeze warning for tonight, It was 96f a few days ago.
Shocked!

I think it's all Othumpa's fault, he posted a snow pic the other day and angered the winter sprite!

Even his home page has a snow pic!

Was that a bus I heard backing up for another start at him?? :p:p:p Man, I would take some cool weather. 97 degrees at 5 pm tonight in San Antonio, with a 70 percent humidity. Felt like we were being steamed

Geez, and I just got my tomato plants in this week finally! What is the elevation in Sandpointe? I remember snow in Reno at the 4th of July rodeo one year and that is further south than you, but elevation is 4500 ft or so.

I think Olthumpa should come help the rest of us with the snowblowing this winter as penance...

A hummmm! You are reaping what you sow or is that snow.

I do not and did not anger the winter spirit. It is in ones best interest to appease them by letting them know that they are in your thoughts. To neglect them, you invoke their wrath. A simple pic lets them know that you have not forgotten them and await their return at the appropriate time.

Now, apparently I have angered the summer spirit some how:( and today I had to preform a ritual and make an offering to it so that I may return to my daily tasks.

The ritual of repentance:
Put Key in the ignition and start engine letting it warm up
Swing leg over the seat, grab the bars, pull the clutch lever in, engage first gear with left foot, slowly let clutch out with left hand while simultaneously increasing the rpm's with the right hand. This process must be repeated many times both shifting up and down. This process was endured for 3 hours before arriving at the summer spirits residence, Laconia NH bike week. There, one MUST make repeated offerings of a liquid spirit to the summer spirit in hopes of appeasing it. Thankfully, it was a bright hot summer day and that made it tolerable. This was followed by repeating the above ritual on the way home. The summer spirit let me know that my offerings were inadequate by branding me with a sun burn. Sooooo, I must repeat these offerings tomorrow in an attempt to win its favor.

So you see, it is you who angered the winter spirit by neglecting it.:p :p :D :D :D

Can you say "CRISPY"?
I knew you could.
It's all god, I hope. I have 2 knees completely shot, and they took this winter and fall when I needed to be most active during the better weather to go down hill very rapidly so that I can barely get anything done now. So I figured, if I'm going to be down for around 3 months recovery (both replaced, 6 weeks apart) before I'm back to minimally functional, what time of year would be best? Guesses? Anyone? I picked Summer! First knee gets cut out tomorrow morning. It's gonna bring the suck no doubt, still to be seen how much, but there is no debate that I'm going to be register solidly on the suckage scale for at least a week or so best case. But other than therapy/exercise, I'll be parked on my recliner under the ice cold central AC (just had it health checked today), with big old school oil bath hunter fan silently spinning overhead to maintain a nice soft breeze, as I watch the forecast pass me by on the screen as other folks live it. I figured I would do the best I could to re-frame the process as much of a positive as possible. They say if I work hard I should be back at the same function as now within 3 months or less, which puts me right into the time for things to start cooling off.

A few days of rain followed by some higher temps, humidity is way up. Skeeters are vicious to say the least. Working with shop door closed keeps it a little cooler. Until a hot car rolls in late afternoon. Was almost too hot for fishing on monday.
I can switch from working to fushing in about 20 minutes. Being self employed has its rewards. Needed to trim trees to open up driveway for towtrucks and tool trucks, was hot and sticky at 8 pm yesterday. And again the mosquitoes were plentiful. I avoid using repellant, so you can imagine the battle.

BadDog, probably not far behind you with a hip. (left-plant foot from soccer days)
I understand re-hab is more "mind-over-matter" than anything else; I had an uncle who was put into a wheelchair by rheumatoid arthritis before he was out of high school. At the age of 60, he was finally able to convince the gubmint that he needed surgery on their dime, and had BOTH knees, BOTH hips, & BOTH elbows replaced in the same year. He sent us a newspaper article about it that showed pics of him dancing at a Christmas party the same year. He said re-hab was less painful than his everyday life. That is determination, and one of the examples I use to tell myself that someone always has it worse than I do.
Good luck with surgery & re-hab, and keep us informed.

Russ,

Good luck with the knees. My neighbor (73) just had his second last week and he is walking without a cane or walker now. Let us know how its going.

Yeah, for those outside of the area, Phoenix is often called "The Valley of the Sun" by many locals. This time of year, I refer to it as the "Surface of the Sun."

Glad I got my shade structure up in the back yard.... but I'll be inside most of this weekend thank-you-very-much.

We have covered what implements work against snow... I am trying to figure out how to get the heat off my driveway. An air conditioner in my bucket driven by a generator on my 3-pt?

Fall is just around the corner... :)

I like your ritual of repentance. Today is the first day without rain here for about a week. I must practice your ritual today.
