As you can see either works. For straps there is a problem frequently found by me anyhow. Those "hooks" if you can call them that, for the better sized straps are not always suitable for hooking onto trailers. They may even be of low capacity. With chains you can wrap them around things without worry about having them break. One recommendation for distant travel. Stop once in a while and check for loosening, etc. With chains and grab hooks I like to wire the hook to a nearby link in case loosening results in the hook jumping off its link.
