A Thread-Pitch Gauge is handy to have in your toolbox.

How accurate is it all? I know that I often substitute a 14mm wrench for a 9/16 and an 11mm for a 7/16” and a 10mm does not work well in lieu of a 3/8.
Those are just 3 ‘mistakes’ I notice.

*Corrected*?

It's for reference is all. SAE is not Metric and vise/versa. I can't put a number to how many "what size" questions I've seen.

Unfortunately it does nothing to tell you what pitch the threads are.
Good thing to mention. Added to my OP. Thanks for the mention.

If you're rummaging your nuts and bolts, start the by hand to avoid thread damage.

Trial and error.

Like @Trimley said, it’s kind of a guide. Something I might save for future reference.

I’m slowly learning metric thread pitch.

Thanks.

There is a great tool called a Thread Detective, and it will tell you what size internal or external thread you're dealing with.

I think this might be useful as a very basic reference for entry level folks.

But a quick check of my metric stash revealed all these different nuts, all 6mm x 1.0.

I know a shop where if caught using wrong wrench, 1st time you'll get a rap on the back of the hand with it. 2nd time ,your wrench is locked away, 3rd time ,you're fired.

What's wrong with posting a "pitcher"and asking someone to tell you what you need to know? 🥴

This $25 caliper will ID thread size and pitch of 99% plus of the fasteners you run into and has many other valuable uses.

Can you take those off the hanging strip(or whatever it's called)?
No…that is why it is mounted at an easy level to reach all of it. Also, it is mounted near my inventory…just at the left end of the bins…

I have a set of Tap and Dies. If I don't know the pitch I grab the tap or die and measure it. Bonus is I don't need another tool or a bunch of bolts hanging around.
