What passage or part of the block is behind this casting hole???

:eek: I have been swapping fluids in my L175 so the engine had to come apart.
The cylinder head is cracked badly between the valves on both holes.:eek::eek:

Once I opened the lower end up I found this casting hole:eek::eek:
What is it and where could it go? Could coolant leak out of this area. It is directly below the pump housing casting area on the right side, front cylinder.

I know the crack in the head was letting coolant into the chambers so that was easy to figure but I was also getting water in the oil.

I found this rusty trail at the bottom of the liner on the rear cylinder so I believe water was getting in the oil there but I wonder about the casting hole too.

A head, sleeve and piston kit with rings, bearings and gaskets will make this thing like new but I have some work to do and the mystery of this hole to solve too.

Help:confused:

Wow that's an older engine I'm not familar with. Is this a true 'wet' liner block? I can't tell by the photos but suspect it is the typical grey iron bored that may not be worth your time and money unless you absolute need it for a numbers matching show tractor...

I believe 1976. I think there are only four years of production on this model.
Yes it is a true wet liner.

Then the rust ring at the base of the liner must be from a failed liner O-ring seal(s). UT the block and if sound, I'd check with Kubota Industrial Engines for a works kit and put her back in action....also ask about DCA additive for anti-cavation to prevent liner pitting with extended coolant so she will live for a long time to come and prevent early liner o-ring failure in the future. A good "seasoned" block is better than a green one any day of the week except for happy hour on Fridays..keep up the good work.

What is included in a "works kit"?
I am waiting for some prices on parts that I need to build it back but one dealer told me "each part had to be priced separately" after I asked if there were any kits available for piston and liners.:confused::confused::confused:

Works kits contain new pistons, rings, bearings, liners, o-rings and gaskets on wet block engines. This is the advantage of doing an inframe engine rebuild. Maybe because this isn't an industrial kubota engine they aren't available. I'm sorry I don't know for sure :eek:
