The one in my photo is less than 6" long. Maybe as thick as a #2 pencil.
I'm completely clueless about snakes.
Picture is deceiving. He looks bigger. I'll have to join the consensus of a brown then.

appears to be a dekay's brown snake. We have them in arkansas too, and at times hundreds of them in the yard. I leave them be, good ones to have around.

I had an interaction with a King, once, we nosed up to a bank on an extraction, I jumped off the bow with a line and shotgun loaded with flechette's he stood up and promptly turned in to a mist well the top half did. Guys on the boat said they didnt know an 870 could shoot that fast

I have a snake hole in the back yard. 6 garter snakes up to over 3 ft long always hanging out around it on sunny days. They have good camouflage in the brush pile. Here's a pic of one bug hunting. Had copperheads in the basement of the barn at our last house that had a lose laid stone foundation. Those things were aggressive and would chase you so I carried my 357 with snake shot when going in there. That stuff works good.
